bajaj was selling close to 2 lakh because of the schemes that they were offering like "pay just 999/- and ride away" and "pay just 1999/- and ride away" etc etc and not on the strength of their product line up. and now that all that has dried up due to banks stopping 2-wheeler finance, bajaj sales are now at what they actually should be. basically they have shot themselves in the foot.

hero honda and hmsi never resorted to such ridiculous schemes to sell the ir products. rather they let the ir trouble free products do the talking and it is now bearing fruit. all those 1000s of people who were buying bajaj and tvs only because of the super attractive schemes have shifted to hero honda and honda because there are none availabe now. and now that no schemes are there, they rather buy a good product than the scheme.

bajaj grew too fast and it has gotten to their heads because if not they would have brought out a new pulsar by now. they thought that it will continue to sell well and so put all their money into an impossible array of entry and executive segment bikes that has left everyone confused.

ct1oo, ct100 dlx, platina, platina variant 1, platina variant 2, platina variant 3, discover, discover dlx, discover 135, discover dtsi etc etc etc with prices overlapping and criss-crossing performances, economies, colours. basically anyone who goes to their showroom used to come out confused but with a product purchased based on an "offer" or "scheme". but now they go there get confused and find that there is no scheme and then they leave and go to hh or hmsi where each product is clearly differenciated with respect to price, performance and economy.

my predicition for 2011....
1. HMSI
2. HH
3. Suzuki
4. Yamaha
5. any of the others.....anyway nobody would care by then

and i say this because there is only so much technology one can buy and implement. the japs have that technology inhouse and also do have lots of money.
