The good thing with 1.2l engine would be duty exemptions that can help Hyundai to keep price down. Price would be the key for it to sell not the engine. In India it does not matter what engine you put, what matters is price should be good.
A smaller engine can also mean better mileage and that would be plus point in Indian context.

And finally, considering the financial condition of the market, Hyundai dare not launch an expensive model - they will need domestic sales in the next year to compensate for low export orders which have already had an impact - they have already laid off 3300 temporary workers and are considering reducing shifts.
Which means that we should expect competitive pricing for the i20 - they need the domestic sales now in the coming months more than ever to sustain ROI on their investments in the new 6 lacs units/annum plant.
