The first day I was stranded... This was in July '08, and I was on my way to work, somewhere in rural Gurgaon. A little before 8 AM. Car running as sweetly as ever, 65K on the odo. The engine suddenly cut out. Died. No knocks, no jerks, no hiccups. Just died, and I pulled over to the side of the road. Cranked a few times, no joy - not even a splutter.
Tried to call Hyundai's helpline. No answer. No one picked up the phone. So I decided to wait till the HMP opens. Ten minutes later, I thought of trying to start again. And it did! One turn of the key and the engine fired, settling into a smooth idle again. Perplexed, I started off again. 2 km down the road, the engine died again. And wouldn't start again. This time there was a sharp whine from the rear, somewhere under the rear seat...
