Hmmm. I have an HP laptop at home, but when I needed some assistance from HP India, they flat refused saying that as its was bought abroad, they will not honour the warranty. This was 3 years ago though, so hopefully things have changed.

But a solid warranty is needed, and if your friend knows anything on this for sure, i would love to get in touch with him.
