For those of you who might be wondering about "Haryana Roadways", let me first give a little introduction.

These are Haryana transport buses. The backbone of all the passenger traffic on the GT Road between Delhi and Haryana. Thousands people travel everyday for commuting to and fro Delhi. If you are in Delhi, chances are you have already encountered a few either on the Dhaula Kuan bus terminal, or the outer ring road leading from ISBT to Azadpur. And since my daily commute is on this very outer ring road, i know a lot about these buses.

The drivers are known to be reckless. They are known to drive at insane speeds, not only when they are on the Highway, but even within the Delhi city. The reason is (which i dont understand), if they are caught on Delhi roads for trafiic violations, they cannot be challaned, because they come under the purview of the Haryana Government/Police, so they can go around commiting Hara kiri on Delhi roads. They almost always drive in the rightmost lane. They almost always DO NOT give way to any vehicle which wants to overtake (unless its a VIP cavalcade). They almost always maitain speeds of 80-90kmph even in City roads. They almost always race with other transport buses.

AND, almost everyday they are involved in atleast one accident.

This time, a college student, studying for Charted accountancy exam, had his head crushed under the roadways bus. The bus was taking a reverse, without any helper/conductor guiding the driver. CAN YOU IMAGINE a bus taking reverse without actually knowing what is or who is behind??... The driver of the bus immediately fled the scene.. angry Mob burned some buses and almost a small riot with college students and bus officials/police took place. But just think for the poor student who lost his life. He was the only son of his widowed mother.
