You're right. That's the economic boom that we've been seeing...not good for traffic chaos.
Regarding the duty system, I think its been put to place in Singapore to discourage people from buying cars so as to reduce traffic jams because they have no land. not to protect local industry since there is none.
In India, the reasons are different....to protect the local auto industry. My only fear is that India will choke its road system like Singapore and will resort to additional taxes to discourage car ownership.
BTW, I am in the southern suburbs near Woodridge. Don't know of any others here.
