It had crossed the Khalapur-Sajgaon toll station and was headed towards Pune.

It doesn't look like a marine diesel engine to me. Marine diesel engines are generally taller with the cylinder block area on one deck and the crankshaft and sump area on a lower deck.

Could it be a diesel engine for a captive-power plant for heavy industry?
These engines made by companies like Wärtsilä, Sulzer and Volvo-Penta, weigh over 120 tons, and run, not on "high-speed diesel", but on "heavy fuel oil". They typically don't go over 500 rpm.

I still don't know the brand and bhp of this engine. Perhaps somebody from the industrial power-plant industry can help?
