Got myself an IBM Thinkpad R51 a month ago. Though nothing great in looks its a real tough one. Mine is Centrino with 256 MB RAM DVD Combo/CDRW Drive 40 GB HDD and gives me a battery life of 3 hours atleast

Cost me 51,500/- inclusive of 3 year global warranty

I use the laptop for exactly the same purpose you ae buying it for and its serving well.
