There is a variety of 3-Way components available, It all depends on a person's listening preference.

Here are the merits and demerits of 3-Way over 2-Way front stage :

Merits :

Soundstage height and depth is more
Imaging is better
Better midrange transparency and speed
Integration between tweeter and midrange gets better as you can place midrange driver close to the tweeter
More balanced sound as there is dedicated driver for reproducing the three crucial elements of sound midbass, midrange, treble. Hence there is nothing lacking in reproducing each one of them.

All the above merits are good for SQ system.

Demerits :

Needs more powerful good 2 channel amplication for the front, anywhere from 100W-300W
Problem in installation of midrange driver. And also the placement, the midrange can suffer if it is prone to reflective areas.
Installation needs lot of time and experimentation before the final fitting to get the best results
