I've painted my drums - matte black,
to have them looking decent through my alloys, & methinks it's generally a good idea to have them resprayed.
Drums, due to their proximity to the road surface & their general inaccessibility through the wheels, tend to gather dirt & rust. I've seen enough cars with really sharp thin spoke alloys & a beautiful set of rusty drums right behind them!
When I was having my callipers painted flaming red, I had a 'curious bystander' at the garage who wanted me to do the drums in yellow as well... Hope he wasn't a T-BHPian!
