Basically, in older cars used the indirect method of injection. These ones had low power and torque characteristics. The main reason for indirect injcection was the difficulties in scaling down the injection system of big diesel engines to smaller one due high speed and small compression volume. With introdution of common rail, the precise control of injection system at high pressure was possible and hence the common rail direct injection becoming popular. Companies started using different nomenclature to diffrentiate their products from others. |
