Just concluded watching a programme on Discovery channel that did a countdown to the seven automobile wonders. These rankings mean just that - wonders ! Not evaluated on any particular parameter. Thought I'd share it with you guys.
7) The ultimate offroader, all-terrain vehicle - Hummer H1 and H2, popularized commercially by Arnold "the Terminator" and made by AM General (GM partner)
6) The first great success on the assembly line - Ford Model T. Came for about $850 in those days.
5) Stylish and elegant - the Jaguar XK120, real curves and the wonderful jaguar lines.
4) One of the first American muscle cars - the Corvette, still coveted and one of the few remaining American icons. Also on this spot was the 1938 Oldsmobile with a "Hydramatic" drive, the first fully automatic transmission on a car.
3) Hybrid technology and green cars - the Toyota Prius.
2) The cute little bug - VW Beetle. Very popular even today, several years after Adolf Hitler sketched a people's car on his napkin. Also on this spot was the MINI cooper. So lovable, the mini-skirt was named after this car.
1) The quintessence of everything fast. Aerodynamic. Introduced as "some people buy cars for practicality, some for the status and a few for the ultimate thrill and speed". The Enzo Ferrari. |
