The problem with custom-made rims (presumably by small-scale manufacturers) might be that they might not meet the strict quality standards required in such a vital component. As an example, there might be the slightest (say 0.01%) deviation from a perfect circle in the rims and you may end up with all kinds of serious problems, both short-term and long-term. And you don't want various problems (rusting, bending, imbalance, etc.) which might arise due to inferior quality of the material and the finish. So I would recommend that you make sure of the quality before going in for custom-made rims.
