Thanks for the queries and additional responses. My comments have been based on an extensive study of at least half a dozen websites, forums as well as personal visits to quite a few dealers, retailers.

As far as power consumption goes, its more or less a myth. LCDs have a constant power consumption while the plasma tv consumption vares according to the image being displayed. At some points it is more, other times less than an LCD tv. Over all, there is not a difference of more than 10-20% and even then it is still lesser compared to the standard CRT tv that most of us currently use. Secondly on the point of heat generation, the viewer usually will sit 9-12 feet away, and therefore that again is just a theoretical issue. I have stood right next to 6 plasma screens all placed together, and not felt anything.

As far as colour reproduction goes, i re-iterate, plasma tv colours are more natural looking and less garish/artificially bright. The brightness/garishness is especially experienced if lcd tv is viewed at night in a dark room. But again, this is a subjective issue, some people like their images to be really bright, so all i would say is compare the two, not in a showroom setting, but in actual bedroom settings. If you like a home theatre experience wherein you will see movies at night in a dimly lit room, please experience the tvs in this atmosphere, the lcd tvs can cause an eye strain after some time.

Yes, lcd tv is newer technology , and it is best suited to the 37 inches and under category. Over 42 inches, please compare and decide. The best 42 inch plasma tvs are Pioneer and Panasonics followed by Hitachi, Samsung and LG.We have a few industry experts in this forum, maybe they can add their comments.
