Despite the marginal hike auto companies are giving sizable discounts.Carmakers’s move to give discounts in March is also prompted by the need to clear inventory in the fag end of the fiscal, industry watchers say.

Maruti dealers are giving cash benefits worth Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 to new buyers, arch- rival Hyundai Motor India has started giving gift cheques of Rs 5,000 on purchase of its flagship model Santro.

MUL is currently offering original accessories worth Rs 10,000 on purchase of its old warhorse Maruti 800, which has seen its sales decelerating. On Swift, this goes up to Rs 18,000 while on Esteem it is Rs 25,000.
Apart from that, the company is offering 50% discount on insurance on its largest selling car Alto. The poor cousin of Maruti 800, the Omni, is available with a gift cheque of Rs 5,000 and an exchange bonus of Rs 5,000 as well.


Among other carmakers, Tata Motors, the country's second largest car seller, is offering free insurance and music system to buyers of Indica and Indigo apart from low equated monthly instalments (EMIs).


General Motor India is luring customers to its multi-ulitity Tavera by offering an accessories package worth Rs 45,000.


Rival Ford Motor India is giving free music system on buying its lone volume-car Fiesta.
