Most Audiobahn subs get mounted this way, to show off all that chrome on the frame and the magnet.
No difference in sound by mounting them this way.
This kind of install maybe necessary in some (rare) cases where the enclosure volume is lesser than the volume of the driver (the part that goes into the enclosure) or where the volume is so small that the driver cannot be installed in the normal way. The two Kicx subs in EVO's TT are a good example of this.
EDIT: I guess mounting them in reverse does keep them cooler (esp. vis-a-vis a sealed enclosure), but I don't think this really is a serious criteria.
