Wagon R was my first ever vehicle (yep, never had a two wheeler)! I have done more than 26000 KM on mine. I find it a great car. I have used and abused it. Done quite a bit of highway driving as well mostly in the last 1.5 years (a few trips from Bangalore to Coorg, almost all Jungle Lodges Resorts in South Karnataka, longest trip was from Bangalore to Vaitheeswaran Koil with a overnight halt in Chennai). Handles quite well at speeds of upto 120KPH. Beyond that I find it a bit uncomfortable (i have done 140 on Bangalore-Chennai highway but difficult to maintain that speed). One thing I have noticed and which is prompting me for a bigger/powerful car is the lack of power. When overtaking I have to switch off the AC (got used to that also now :-) ) esp on the narrow state highways! I guess it will be a problem in all small cars.
So far apart from the routine services (I do one every 6 months or 5000 KM whichever is earlier) never had to visit the workshop (touch wood)! I feel it is still as good as when I had bought it 4 years back.
Rgdg the Gear box, I have occasional problems slotting the gear into first but have got used to it now. I just slot it into neutral and then try slotting it into 1st gear again and it slots fine. Never had any problems with the other gears.
FE is about 12 KPL (with Shell) AC is almost always on (I never switch it off) in the city and about 17 KPL on highways. Once it did give me 19+ but never been able to get that much after that. I calc after every tank fill !
A thoroughly reliable car and I would recommend it to anyone. |
