| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | The extreme offroaders invite you to the EXAMM! 2011. The first EXAMM (Extreme offroaders Annual Monsoon Mania) was held in June 2010 and was the first big event to happen in Western Maharashtra. The 2010 edition was well attended by 50 jeepers from all around the country and was a huge learning experience for everyone in terms of observing the off roading skills of different jeepers. As organizers, we too learnt a lot and now the 2011 edition promises to be bigger and better than before. Dates of the event: 16-17th July 2011 (Saturday - Sunday) The AKC (Alfa Kilo Challenge 2011) will be held on the 15th of July and we are syncing our event with it. Venue: Lonavla Programme: AKC details will be out soon, but here is a brief outline. Participants report to the AKC venue on the 14th of July 2011 (thursday) evening and check in for the night. AKC begins on the 15th (friday) for the full day. Participants rest back at night and leave for EXAMM! 2011 venue on the morning of the 16th (saturday) after breakfast. They reach lonavla by lunch time and check in to their respective accommodation. We will arrange for mechanic facilities for anyone who has that car issues and would like to fix it. Lunch and registration formalities will be completed by afternoon and people can get their vehicles repaired and serviced. We will hold a small fun competition on saturday for different classes of vehicles. It will be a mud drag. Vehicle classification will be provided soon). After that, the participants go back to their respective accommodations to get refreshed. We have booked a dhabba for the night bonfire and dinner. A video walk though / drive through of the entire next day's trail will be shown to the participants so that they can judge what to expect. Options for alternate work around routes will be given as well. Buses are arranged to take the participants to and fro from the venue. Although the dhabba is only 10 kms away, we do not want anyone driving at night after having a good time. The dinner will be a sumptuous spread of veg and non veg dishes. We retire at night and start the offroad session early in the morning on sunday the 17th which will go on till the night. Participants then have the option to stay back or head homewards. Accommodation: We have blocked rooms for all participants at various types of hotels. We have luxurious accommodations to good budget ones for you to choose from. We will soon put up those details along with photographs for you to choose from. We will assign one member of the 'o' team to do the bookings for you. You can also pay directly to the hotel for doing your bookings. Cost of the Event: We have kept the cost of the event a reasonable Rs. 2000/- per person excluding accommodation but including food, water and snacks. No cost for children (below 10 years) accompanying parents. (Note: this is for EXAMM! 2011 only, NOT for AKC) Bank details will be put up shortly. Rules: Rules will be put up soon, but please remember, they will be strictly enforced. Watch this space for more updates. Max Participants A maximum of 50 vehicles will be allowed. Entries will close after that. In addition, a maximum of 40 passengers can be accommodated. Only issue we are facing is accessibility for the kitchen staff to reach the OTR spot midway. In case this doesn't work out, then we will have to do with food packets which would most probably be biryani and raita. Last edited by Tejas@perioimpl : 25th April 2011 at 12:48. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | About Lonavla Lonavla is about 90km away from the city of Mumbai and 65 km away from Pune City. Lonavla is easily accessible by road and by train from both Mumbai and Pune which are one of the nearest locations. Lonavla and the adjacent Khandala are twin hill stations 622 m. above sea level, in the Sahyadri ranges that demarcate the Deccan Plateau and the Konkan coast. The hill stations sprawl over an approximate area of 38 km˛ and are popular holiday destinations during the monsoons. People prefer visiting Lonavla and Khandala in the rainy season. Lonavla and Khandala were discovered in 1871 by Sir Elphinstone, the Governor of the Bombay Presidency. The name Lonavla is derived from the Sanskrit lonavli, which refers to the many caves like Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves and Bedsa that are close to Lonavla. A trip to Lonavla and Khandala can be combined with sight-seeing visits of Karla, Bhaja and Bedsa caves and also the two fortresses, Lohagad and Visapur. Another places of interest is the Tungi fort, one of the forts captured by Malik Ahmad near the village of Karjat and was known for its natural strength. Lonavla's name is almost resonant with it's Chikkis. People throng in huge numbers to the stores to buy Chikki, Fudges and other savouries of different varieties. Lonavla is just another hill station in Maharashtra, and one cannot miss the hot masala chai or the Vadapav. One should try the hot bhajiyas along with masala chai. This is available at any of the major tourist spots. You also get hot corn at almost all of the tourist locations. It is to be noted that while you can get these at most of the hotels as well, nothing can beat the taste of these piping hot snacks served at the roadside. | Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Getting to Lonavla: Most Mumbai folks know how to reach Lonavla. For the out of town folks, they will first need to reach Pune from where it is a straight drive of approximately 65kms to Lonavla via the toll expressway. Below is a route guide to reach Pune. Pune is served by three national highways (NH) and an expressway. 1) NH 4 between Mumbai in the west and Chennai in the south passes through Pune. NH 4, a part of the Golden Quadrilateral of highways connects Pune to Bangalore also. Satara, Kolhapur and Kagal all in Maharashtra are connected to Pune by NH 4. National Highway 4 runs through the villages of Shirwal, Naraspur, Hadapsar, Khadki, Tolegaon, Wadgaon, Lonavala, and Khandala within Pune district. 2) NH 9 connects Pune in Maharashtra to Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. Indapur, Solapur, and Umarga in Maharashtra, followed by Rajeshwar, Homnabad, and Mangalgi in Karnataka, and thereafter Zahirabad, Hyderabad, Suriapetm and Vijywada in Andhra Pradesh are connected by NH 9 to Pune. The villages of Kambhargaon, Bhigvan, Ravangaon, Loni Kaibhor, and Theur within the district of Pune are connected by this highway. 3) NH 50 connects Pune to Nasik. The cities of Sangamner, Narayangaon, and Khed all in Maharashtra are connected by this highway. Chakan, Rajgurunagar, Malegaon, Mancharo, Kalamb, Narayangaon, and Aleo are the important locations on this highway between Pune and Nasik.
