| Sumos(Sumo 4X4 Excused), Grandes and Arias to an "off-roading" event. ![]() I Think Tata Motors should call it more of a "soft-roading" adventure. I honestly feel that 4X2 Sumos, Grandes and Arias cannot do the so called off-roading. They are fit for only Soft-roading activities like water crossing, some loose gravel etc. By calling this an "off-roading" event, Tata would break hearts of 4X4 owners and instill fear / insecurity for 4X2 owners ![]() Last edited by scopriobharath : 14th July 2012 at 23:42. |

| Relax buddy, everyone starts soft. Actually it's a good thing that Tata is taking the initiative. These events are not to cater to existing or serious off roaders, they serve as a stepping stone for beginners and Newbies. |

| Team-BHP Support ![]() | I participated in Full throttle Ludhiana event. I do not know about their trail for Delhi event, but in Ludhiana they had very good trail for the event. The event was organised well, here is the report: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-ex...-ludhiana.html (Drive & Report : Tata Motors Full Throttle Trail @ Ludhiana) |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | BHPian souravdebiswas and I participated in the TMFT program on Saturday, 28 July, in his Safari 4x4 VX. Certain unforeseen events and problems in the organization of the event by Cougar Motorsports left a number of us (at least a dozen cars) cruising around the stone quarries around the Gurgaon-Faridabad Road for over 3 hours, ultimately being unable to reach the designated track. There was no map provided in print or as a GPS file. The lead car of the convoy was an unmarked Aria, as was another unmarked vehicle which was the sweeper car. Participants indulged in random overtaking and overspeeding while going in convoy to the track, with no one to check them. The direct access road (via a toll gate) was blocked by stone quarry trucks whose owners were on a flash strike since the previous day, cutting off easy access to the track - as a result, the organizers made us take a circuitous alternate off-road route, which even some officials were not familiar with. Ultimately, frustrated with driving around aimlessly, about 5 cars including ours, returned to base at the Tivoli Gardens, while another unknown number of cars remained stuck behind a Sumo that fell into a pit and held up the rest for an unknown period of time. Some pics are available (with geotags), which I'll resize and upload soon, till then please bear with me. The track that we were shown on a PowerPoint presentation: Last edited by SS-Traveller : 29th July 2012 at 22:22. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | The program started with registrations, scrutiny, driver briefing and breakfast at the Tivoli Garden Resort at Chhatarpur, from 8 AM. Scrutiny was prefunctory, but the organizers had a mechanic to hand to remove bull bars. You WILL get stuck, and we will have to tow you out, but bull bars hamper access to tow hooks, was the explanation. Now, this sounded like quite a challenging trail! The convoy set off at 10:20 AM, and soon after crossing Dera Gaon, the lead car seemed to have lost its way. We stopped, and the lead car doubled back for some unknown reason. ![]() On our way again, but we did not notice the lead car return. Someone else was apparently leading. Everyone suddenly seemed to be in a rush to have loads of fun, and rash driving & overtaking suddenly began to prevail. By the time we were turning off onto unmetalled tracks from the MDR 133 (Gurgaon Faridabad highway), the cars at the back of the convoy were jostling for space to see who could get off the road first. ![]() For those interested, I have attached the GPS data for reference to the photographs. | BHPian | What a shame that an event which could have been loads of fun has to whittle out due to poor planning and execution!! The organizers need a whack you know where!! |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Indeed. Didn't expect to NOT know where the trail was. A simple tulip at least would have served the purpose. Quote:
As to the 'no OTR' score, well, we did use 4wd to get out of a couple of situations very comfortably, especially past a huge pit with a very narrow uphill track alongside it - where we heard a Sumo toppled in later on, and held up the rest of the participants. My perceptions of what comprises an OTR pretty well match yours, isn't it? However, I'd love to be at a particular place where (and when) you subsequently decide to host the 1st East-&-North-East-India National Invitation (ENEINI) OTR with in-house recovery equipment available gratis! (Hope the cat inside the bag didn't go 'meaow' ) | |

| Ouch! Chances of that happening depend on what I'm smoking and imbibing when issuing invitations. (Now you do the maths, factoring in that I don't drink. Though I've often been asked 'What have you been smoking'!) Regards Sutripta |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | As promised, here are the pics (in sequence), with GPS data attached where available. Not too many pics, nor of great quality, but then I was hoping to get to the actual trail and be entertained by many cars in action, not roam about rocky tracks with a group of lost souls, looking for the venue! Would actually like to see a trace of the track we followed, if possible. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Probably our first inkling of things to come - a mass U-turn because someone went off on a wrong route ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() By this time (this pic and the next one with GPS data on it were shot almost back to back), most people were asking each other whether anyone actually knew the route ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Near Camp Wild, about 20 cars were going wild going round in circles, and stuck on a narrow metalled track trying to let an oncoming Bolero Camper pass. Interestingly, the Bolero Camper appeared to be carrying midday meals for school kids of the local villages! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by SS-Traveller : 2nd August 2012 at 19:50. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Continuing the sequence of photographs, with GPS data attached where available: Back on metalled road... ![]() ![]() (Organizers had paid the toll charges - not Rs.225, but Rs.22.50 )![]() ![]() ...before going back to kutcha tracks again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This water crossing (this pic and the next) were supposed to be part of the 6 challenges set up on the trail - but after this water crossing, where did the trail run away? ![]() ![]() ![]() Lost and stopped ![]() Back on tar ![]() The road was blockaded by quarry trucks - we were originally suposed to have approached the trail via this route, we were told later ![]() ![]() Mud to show for 5 hours' effort - every Safari has a clearly delineated mud patch on its left headlight after going through slush - is that a design feature or what? This is back at Tivoli Gardens Resort ![]() Last edited by SS-Traveller : 2nd August 2012 at 19:59. |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | I have no idea who owns this belt of land, nor am I aware whether or not any real estate development is slated to happen in this zone. Stone quarrying is a common activity in this zone, and I haven't noticed any large-scale farming activity here either. Most villages seem to tend large numbers of buffaloes and cows here. |
