Default Offroad trips in and around western Rajasthan...

Hello Team BHPians,

Thought to start a new thread to share my off road trips... Posting picture of our recent trip to Pushkar, RJ. I have to do OTR all alone with my Jeep as I did not find any Jeeper interested in OTR in my town. This time I was with Samarth (a flying freak who has a peraglider and a hang glider), Gaurav (horse rider) and Mr. Surana (a senier adventure tour guide). While returning back from Pushkar to Jodhpur, we though to run maximum on a dry river bad (Luni river) but alas we had a break down and had to change our plan .

While driving on some soft sand, I realized there is no power going to the tyres. It was in low 4wd so I thought is has gone into the nautral position. I was wrong. Gave a call to some of my senier Jeep friend and they told me it should be clutch burning case and only a machanic can fix it.. We arranged a tractor and pulled the Jeep. After the very first check, the machanic said he will fix this half an hour. He went below the jeep, opened the grear inspection cover and I see the gear who is supplying power to the transfer case was out.

Here are the pictures...

Good to see some action pics from you after a long time. So what exactly caused the breakdown?

Default OTR closeby our city

Posting here some pictures of one of earlier OTR. It was aprox 7 Km trail and it took us almost 5 hrs to go throught it. I suppose our Jeep was the first one to cross that trail. The last two pictures show a half built bridge where we had to built a big ramp both the side to cross it over. Sorry for the bad quality pictures...

Outstanding pictures and amazing environment to go offroading in. The Jeep's looking super-hot! Did you find the diesel's lack of revvs a limitation on sand?

I've always wanted to offroad in Rajasthan and along the way, visit palaces and eat marwari food at local joints. Someday...

Rahul, I understand the risk involved but I have very limited choice . Either quit off roading or I have to continue doing it alone until somebody other in my circle bitten by the Jeep bug. One of my friend has already told me to look for a SWB Jeep .

Yes, and this month I am going to explore some very exciting places. I have taken leave from work for a good one week and we will do a lot of off the road .

You can hardly do anything with the cell phone actually.. How you will tell your location when you yourself do not know exactly. I suppose in case of breakdown, you simply have to walk and have to search a recovery vehicle (tractor). One of my learning is that one should have a lots of water with them else you can have a real tuff time.

While restoring, it was Mr. UBS who very strongly recommended not to consider any other engine than XD3P. So now whenever I do some tuff terrain, my heart says thanks to him. It is really a wonderful and powerful engine. And on the top of everything, you get mechanic in every small town.

To be specific, in beginning I had thrust for more power while see failure to climb a sand dune but later I understand that it is the traction problem which normally stops you. More power means, you are increasing the chances of digging the soft fine sand and stucking. However whenever I will have some spare time, I would like to design a LPG fumigation kit for this engine. Also Mr. Dhabhar Behram's tip on the tyre pressure is working well.

Let me know whenever you plan to take that off! I am off to a long drive tomorrow, Delhi -Mumbai -Jamnagar-Delhi. If I make a stop over or pass near your place I will give you a call enough in advance so that we can meet up at least!

Guys,

I am very regular on Rajasthan route, and specialize on desert route. Churu being my native place, I visit there once in 3 months.

This weekend, I have done Delhi - Jaipur (Chandwaji) - Sikar - Bikaner - Churu - Delhi. The Ratangarh - Dungargarh - Bikaner route has many amazing sand trails ( however, it is not advisable to go solo there due to extreme terrain). Jepers can also camp around that area or else there are many RTDC properties in all these places.

Cheers!

Good knowledge Ashish, lets keep an NIOC outstation OTR there. The weather for next few months is also perfect for that.

Default Kumbhalgarh century...

Finally I have found a good Classic for my friend Surana who has bought it since I strongly recomend that Jeep (thanks to Yogesh for helping us in the hunt).

So this time we went out with NEW Classic and my Jeep to Kumbhalgarh Wild Life Century, did a lot of off roading, slept under the star close to Kumbhalgarh fort, cook foor at our own and enjoyed every moment of it....
