Arka,

Thanks for the clarification. Still got few more doubts. But I guess there will be a detailed briefing before the event date.
July 18th recce is still on or has been called off? Would be keen to join you guys.

Am coordinating with Mansoor, as they plan for a recce before the event.

Hi Robinson,

There will be a detailed discussion of the rules and scoring system, once all the participants assemble on the 12th August 2010.

The Recce#7 (July 18, 2010) is definitely on.

Regards,

Arka

Default Scoring for TPC

Hi Guys,

Scoring For TPC09

1) 3 Points for Trying an Obstacle.
2) 10 Points for Clearing an Obstacle. (irrespective of No. of attempts)

Maximum Time Limit
No. Of Vehicles X No. of Obstacles (in each SS) X 2 Minutes

3 X 3 X 2 = 18 Minutes including all attempts and Recovery.
3 X 4 X 2 = 24 Minutes including all attempts and Recovery.
3 X 5 X 2 = 30 Minutes including all attempts and Recovery.

Additional Rules for TPC10

1) Negative 5 or 10 Points for
a) Unsafe Recovery Technique
b) Littering

We try to keep the Rules and Scoring simple, but since the number of Teams competing each year is growing, the Scoring System has to be Idiot Proof, and eliminate any chances for a Tie.

The participants of the previous years can add their experiences and suggestions.

Regards,

Arka

Arka,

This is a good initiative, I hope forum members will agree with me that several (read many) attempts by participants in such events is a big turn off.

Who/How is this decided? Would it be like, if one of the vehicle topples it is considered unsafe ??

Actually it should read

UNSAFE RECOVERY TECHNIQUES
a) No Gloves
b) No Cable Dampers
c) Snatching/Jerking the Cables/Ropes

The O-Team members manning the SS will give out a warning after which points will be deducted.

Nice to know that more and more people are following this route and have realized the value of these -- even if some of them were skeptical of these very mods

Hey, headers, have you removed the anti-sway bar?? Don't tell me you have removed it.!!!! IIRC, you were dead against this.

I would'nt tamper much with my suspension settings as i am comfortable lifting wheels while doing obstacles!

Also, consider this situation - The vehicle is stuck [rear wheels halfway in muck and the front right is also maybe sinking in slowly - The front left will normally go in air [or stay on the ground in your case] Do you think it will give you traction in this situation?

Cheers

Yes KS, you are correct - I was skeptical against those mods while you did them.

As one understands the limitations, one keeps looking at ways to work around it right?

And YES - My front sway bar is removed too

And BTW, I stopped taking my Gypsy to the TRACK!!!

Wow, looks like a stock gypsy will not cut it this time. Few questios:

1. Please eloborate 3 x 3 x 2
2. Snatching with a snatch strap is OK ? will this be scrutinized, and will the "S" rule apply?
3. The 10 points is for clearing obstacles on its own ? If driven or self recovered is the points the same as long as done within the time limit ?
4. Few rules from our local R&R as we get comp/lawyers. But it will need O team man power and consistancy.

6.1. Winching Error (Including Plasma Rope) – 2 Debit each
a. No Gloves
b. No Cable Dampener
c. No Tree Protector
d. Standing Between the Vehicle & anchor when Cable under tension
e. Crossing over a tensioned Cable
f. Driving over the Cable / dragging the cable on Track while driving.
g. Unsafe Rigging
h. Carrying Cable inside the vehicle – Cable has to be spooled in the winch drum or on the bumper the respective winch is fitted on.
i. Objects that are attached to winching cable which are not under tension
j. Unwinding cable to last layer.

6.2. Speed Error -1 debit each (Penalties to be imposed after the giving of one warning by the Marshal)

c. Excessive Acceleration on Obstacles without resorting to recovery
d. Failure to stop when signaled to stop by a marshal
e. Unsafe Driving – Knocking on Trees – too close to marshals

6.3. Safety Error – 2 Debit each
a. Not Wearing Seat Belts
b. Riding outside the Vehicle
c. Driving with Door Open
d. Equipment falling off the vehicle
e. Not wearing Shoes, Shirt or Shorts.
f. Snatching of Fellow competitor with Snatch more than a single S slack.
g. Snatching with a Tow Rope.

6.4. General Rules - Disqualification

a. Verbal Abuse to Marshals / Arguing with marshals (Penalties to be imposed after the giving of one warning by the Marshal)

b. Interfere with marshal’s duties (Penalties to be imposed after the giving of one warning by the Marshal)

c. Tempering with other competitor vehicle.
d. No Alcohol or Narcotic Drugs may be used during the Stages.
e. DNS – Did not start
f. Driving Off the Trail
g. Littering the Trail

Hi Sean

1) 3 (No Of vehicles in a Team) X 3 (No. of obstacles in an SS) X 2mins (Per obstacle) = 18 Mins for 3 vehicles to complete an SS with 3 Obstacles.

2)We don't use a snatch strap, Please explain the S-rule.

3) A Vehicle cannot be winched or Towed up/through any obstacle in the Special Stages. The Vehicles can be recovered while attempting the SS, within the time limit of each SS.

4)I have gone through the rules of your competition, and they are exhaustive, but we need O-Team Manpower to implement them, in a few years.

Regards,

Arka

A snatch strap is what I used in the Last year's Palar. It has an elasticity. Where the Recovery Vehicle can have a slack on the strap and drive off and when tensioned the bogged one will be yanked out. The elasticity prevents the hooks from prying off the chassis. However this should be restricted to a maximum slack of a "S" shape, beyond it it will cause damages. Ideally tension first and judge the amount of Yanking needed. Sometimes when a lighter vehicle snatches a heavier one, the lighter one can get yanked back to the bogged heavier vehicle.

Arka, how about snatching with tow straps, as you know Snatching is even quicker than winching!!!

Hi Sree,

Snatching with a Tow Strap is poor technique and can lead to catastrophic failures(Tow Strap/Tow Hook/Towing Points(Shackles) on the Chassis).
