Good one Spitfire. I never noticed the turning radius. 5.9 Is HUGE Vs invader. For just 50K you at least two doors and a roof to save you from the elements. And have you come across invaders with Fiber body kits like ROPLAS which gives it the old MM540 hard top look. If you can make a sierra type seating arrangement with A/c you end up with a decent 5 seater daily and offroad car.

Ps - Any luck on that Goan TD?

even i hate mahindra for doing this. has been a dream for me to own a modded MM540 since school. now when I start earing, M&M pulled the rug!

actually it's working pretty well here in kerala. there are quite a few running around as private vehicles, as cop cars, taxis, pick up vans. and you can see them streaming down the cochin coimbatore route, coming down from the factory up north.

My question is, is it a good compromise for off and on road antics?
I know the CL500/major is good off the road, but what happens when I exhaust all the nearby off road destinations? how good or bad is it compared to the invader on the highway?if its only a minor difference on the highway, I'll pick the CL500/major. I will be quite happy with an 80kmph top speed if the torque is sufficient to get me there quickly.

there are so many combinations and permutations of the engine and chassis that i get confused even if the posts ahead of me have detailed everything nicely.

EDIT- spitfire's post came up while i was typing out my question. i got my answer there(i think)

Exactly, makes sense to go for the Invader, only if the 50K discount sticks. If not its a pricey option. Better refinement over the Major and i think better appeal too.

So the Invader is a LWB compared to Major's SWB, that's a bummer. Then how does it have shorter turning radius than Major?

The image here looked like a SWB.

How about those old toyotas, landys do they come with the AC, PS, BS,...
BTW, how much would they work out to buy and use as a daily car. Are they ease to maintain?? I guess they had better levels of comfort than the Mahindra's.

What about the gurkahs? where do these stand when compared to the above.(as they were from MB)

Oops my bad.
The Invader has a Wheelbase of approximately 2450mm.

Yeah and surprising that the turning radius is higher on the Major.

You'll need a friendly neighbourhood mechanic to tinker around.

Aha, let's wait for Santosh to get the correct specification from Mahindra.

I have sent the mail to Mahindra HO in Mumbai and Sales office in Bangalore. awaiting eagerly.

BTW. I found this piece of information and probably worth investigating.

Steering Ratio
Read - MANUAL STEERING SYSTEMS

Rack and Pinion
Read - Rack and Pinion

Worm and Roller
Read - Worm and Roller

The Mail on Major(from Mahindra) reads "Worm and Roller type" steering. If (Regular) Bolero has Rack&Pinion it may be more efficient than the OLD Worm/Roller thing. Bolero guys can throw some light on their steering systems, GTO can you pitch in with the classis system, If I am correct, it incorporated the Rack system with PS. I think the Major still sticks to the old Worm system giving it a larger radius.

This is exactly as Major's engine, except for the TC. How can Mahindra have two engines of same power/torque figure, one with and one without TC?

What is the kerb weight, gross weight is not useful. How are they managing 1+7 in a SWB vehicle? Just sidewise bench seats in the rear...

I am pretty sure thats a missup from their data, Invader SURE comes with the Turbo. (cant wait to see 4x4addict and spitfire go mad with somany specs)

1+7 simple = 2 seats upfront, 3+3 benches inthe rear like the Gypsy. I have been in one of those 8seaters, Pain to sit and hold on, but a beauty of a 4x4.

Check this: Mahindra INVADER - Silver Jubilee Motors - Authorised dealers for Mahindra & Mahindra's vehicles in Maharashtra. INDIA

Notice the torque figure? 44.5kgm at 4000rpm.
And it says 1+6 seats.

@svsantosh/samurai: The engines are the same hence i did the comparison with the other specs. Only the DI comes with a turbo and not the MDI engine, but the same engine is turbocharged in the Major. Seriously man this is crazy

Another one: TC or not TC power and torque ratings are the same for the same engine

I need some dope.

I think Mahindra Dealers are more confused then we are.

No confusion, The Invader DI and Major specifications are same. Now Invader comes with a TC and 5 speed gear box and 16inch wheels. No difference at all. The reason Invader has shorter turining radius is that it has wider front track. Invader has langer wheel base iof the two. Power train wise theres no difference.

It is pity that Mahindra did not update info on Invader and hence dealers also didnt. Half hearted approach towards Invader made it a slow seller.
