Changing emission norm was also an issue. Also Force's engineering strengths are not so great. They can't modify their designs in keeping with the demands of the time.
But end of the day it is an ethical company with good manufacturing practises.
I do not think TATA 407 was ever much of a competition for the F307 or Matador(at least in the south). The only competition Matador had was from Mahindras maxicab breadbox(I do not know what is the exact model name) and Standard van. This was until Firodia came out with the Tempo traveller, which was a hit with the transport guys. I believe Bajaj Tempo(now Force) never faced much competition and had the whole segment to themselves.

What TATA 407 did however, was to take the Jap LCV's(Alwyn Nissan, DCM Toyota, Swaraj Mazda, Eicher Mitsubishi etc) head on and show them a clean pair of heels. Since this is an OT post, I better stop.

rhandle. I called every dealer in chennai and bangalore for this size. This is OEM size that comes in the Defender and the Land cruiser 70 series. Unfortunately no one in India stocks this since no one really buys this size. The Yokohama dealer for south india based in cochin agreed to import it after full payment of approx 7K a tire. Since I sold my Gurkha I didn't pursue this.

After phoning the factory the Force dealer in Jalandhar, Punjab told me Saturday that the new Gurkha would come out in April 2009 and that it would have the om611 detuned down to 110 bhp for fuel economy.

I have no reason to doubt him. I have no reason to believe him....it's Force afterall.

Force has a marketing executive? That too a senior one? That's news. Why don't these guys try and market the Gurkha?

Ravinder Singh VP Mktg. When I spoke to him and asked about the OM611 engine he said it will be sometime early 2009 when it will be released in Gurkha.

Well If I can get a Gurkha in less than a week after Booking which is actually the shipment time from Indore to Delhi, dont you think I might have some sources... and those are telling me it wont be in Gurkha soon.

So after 3 yrs of wait I have decided to put my foot down and going for this. Also wht 611 wud do... except more speed at higway. This engine got enough torque. Talked with many TT owners and one Gurkha owner in Punjab he is perfectly happy.

This vehicle cruises at 120-130 at ease. He also adds tht it gives better NVH than his Innova and is many levels above his Mahindras and Gypsies he had till now.

NOW any help on getting 235x85XR16 Geolander AT of Yokohama in Delhi, got no source over here!

I think this is the older Gurkha with IDI OM 616 turbo-engine. Please verify this.
The current Gurkha (with DI Turbo) may reach 120-130kmph, but I dont think it will be "cruising with ease" , it may take a while longer to reach there.

This definitely sounds like the older Gurkha with the 90HP IDI Turbo OM 616 engine. Though the current Gurkha has good NVH levels, it will not be as good as the older one with the OM616.

Does he also own a Jonga? Then he owns the OM616, that's a different animal.

Exact size is not available. But you can call Mr. Garry of Grewal Tyres on 9868850007, he's got some options that might interest you.
