Hello JEEPers & 4WDrivers,

Jeep Thrills has been going strong in many ways. Be it healthy
discussions on Jeeps or regular off road trips. Now its yet another
event to celebrate!!! Jeep Thrills announces it's annual event

THE PALAR CHALLENGE 2006! A chance to push you and your machine to the limit!

This three-day NON-COMPETITIVE event involves driving on the Palar
riverbed and the terrain ranges from sand and rock to mud and water
crossings.

The event starts at Vellore (Tamil Nadu) on 12th August 2006 and ends at Mamallapuram near Chennai on 14 August 2006.The event covers roughly 110 kms Off-the Road. This event is open to all 4X4 vehicles (with 2 speed transfer case) irrespective of model or make.

The vehicles have to be in top condition since the terrain involves
very difficult sections.

For us in Maharashtra, it was restricted to the Great Escapes until a bunch of us started doing our own independent off-roading. Much more fun, and a success each and every time.

What does this sort of thing do to the ecology of the riverbed? Even though the river bed may be dry right now, Im sure there are consequences to the ripping up of the river bed by 4x4 tyres and leaking oil etc etc?

Hi Epijay,
You have raised a very good point about the ecological impact this event will have on the riverbed.
1) The Palar River Basin in perenially dry
2) The Palar River is mainly subterranean
3) The River bed has been used for sand quarrying. Any driving will flatten those quarrys .
4) We believe and promote ecologically / environmentally sound 4WDriving........and not tearing across any terrain.

The JEEP THRILLS annual event - The Palar Challenge 2006 came to an
end on 15 August 2006. We had 2 days of OTR driving on the Palar River bed.

The event was well attended we had the following JEEPs & 4WDs
