Default My first offroading experience

I went for the 'extreme' 4x4 offroading event organised in Chikmangalur/ Saklespur by 'Lazboy' and it was an awesome experience. My first proper off road even though i have a 4x4 Scorpio. Going through some of the terrain and the way the 4x4 vehicles handled them, i understood what really these vehicles can do. The rain gods didnt pour which was disappointing to the team but given that this was my first event I was more than satisfied. Cant wait for the next one. Am uploading some of the photographs for the groups's viewing. Enjoy!!

Were any 2Wheel Drives? Like a Scorpio 2wheel drive or a MM540 2x2?

Awesome pics, but most of it are of the RR. Offroading is really the way to go.

Sweet; the first off-road experience is always cherished the most. Mine was at the Great Escape in Panchgani 1997.

You own a relatively rare machine in the Scorpio 4x4. How did it perform off the road? How about an ownership review also?

Thanks

Arrow Scorpio Performance?

Hai,

Great pictures, though small. It captures the excitement of the event.

Pl. do post your account of how the Scorpio performed; that wouldbe valueable information for owners of the Scorp, other SUV owners and people wanting to buy one.

It would be great to hear from you how different SUV's performed in the event.

Happy Driving,

--Ramky

Hi guys,

Sorry have not been able to respond with regards to the performance of the Scorpio 4x4 due to work pressures!! But as I am relaxing before going for my ultra marathon this Sunday thought I would jot down my thoughts on this.

My Scorpio is the non CRDE one done about 45k without any major issues. The 4X4 set up here is similar to one that is on the Bolero. Does not have any differential lock options but given the torque and the kind of offroading I went for had no issues with the power part of the setup. However if I would want to do some serious off roading then the following would certainly be essential:
- remove the plastic cladding
- remove the foot assist which reduces the clearance and also hits the trees/ rocks on the side
- increase the clearance. This is one major area which is of concern in the Scorpio. This would mean that one would have to be extremely careful while driving on roads as the CG would be changed radically

Other than the above one can go for additional goodies - better/ specific tyres, winch, some training!!

Rgds

Wow, this is interesting. Never saw this thread before, looks like great fun. This place is close enough for me. How often does 'Lazboy' conduct such events?

hi samurai, this was the first one conducted by the guys from stanley @ chikmangalur. I understand they do 1 or 2 a year mainly in the monsoons. A number of the planters clubs (I know abt the sakleshpur planters club for sure) also do off roading events during the monsoons. Most of them however are 'word of mouth' events.

Oh, that's disappointing. Would have been great if they publicized it and accepted outside participants. :-(
