| Senior - BHPian | What if I want to encounter a steep hill climb under full load, I would need the High ratio but would like to have the hublocks open to prevent stressing out the drivetrain. With Autohublock can we manually disengage the hub locks?

This would not be possible on the auto hublock vehicles.

| With a vehicle with the power and torque similar to the scorpio, you will not need low ratio for climbing a steep paved road. One is likely to run out of traction before power, so 4WD H/L may be engaged as required. |

| Go ahead and stress the h*ll out of it. That is what it was made for. Even if you break something you can always fix it. ANd, you probably won't break it anyway.

Many years ago, (on the same premise that I'll have it fixed when it breaks), I used my Gypsy in 4WD Low for hundreds of kms on mountain roads, lot of it on dry and hard pavement. I never managed to break anything! ![]()

| BHPian | yes as also the Bolero 4wd version GLX which first came out and of course it continues to do duty in the newer Bolero 4wds- this was really the first step up for both tata and mahindra, from the old type 4wd stick shift selectors with low and high etc. On the Safari it worked very well - I ve driven the old 1948 cc Turbo Safari with 4wd many times. |

| When it comes to four-wheel drive systems, I still prefer the good old lever that is still u used in many of the modern 4x4s. I don't want any electrical motor/contacts coming in between me and the obstacle. Besides, I don't know how well the electical components in the Safari/Scorpio are water and dustproofed in the transfer case. |

| BHPian | there is nothing quite like clicking your vehicle manually into 4WD, I agree. Theres a certain psychological satisfaction in simply hearing those clicks and knowing that the ratchets are firmly slotted into each other - now show me the MUD! Quote:

Infractions: 0/1 (4) | I also agree that the lever thingy is more confidence-inspiring, but I'm also enjoying the selector 'switch' immensely! Having done large distances on bad terrain and many water crossings, it is working well so far. The disconcerting trait about these electric shifts is that they do not engage instantly. A few seconds elapse before 4WD gets engaged and you hear the reassuring clicks; same for Low Ratio. |

| BHPian | Testdrove the Endeavour thunder+ this week,i prefer manual selector to the electronic switch.Endeavour has a unlocking button on the console so the procedure of reversing is not required for unlocking hubs.
