Taking a cursory look at what one needs to remove the soft-top, I unscrewed
the 6 nuts just above the front seats.
But then, I didn't realise that the soft-top is hooked onto the frame above the
doors on either side, using fragile rivets. And putting these back on seems a herculean task! (See picture)

Any experience taking the soft-top and putting it back on will be good to know.

Thanks

Those rivets look like they're meant for single use ! [much like plastic zip ties] - I'd urge you to take this to the Auth Serv Center and have them do it back - they'll probably replace all the rivets with new ones anyways..

[I do sincerely hope taking off the soft top does not violate the Thar warranty?]

Yes, the rivets seems to be for single use. I did take it back the dealer, who
couldn't fit all back, even with new rivets! Looks like they didn't have the right set.

I too hope it does violate the Thar warranty. If it does, it is rather absurd, don't you think?

The rivets are single use plastic. Most of them break off when you remove the front end of the soft top. You have to be careful since they sometimes break off into the hole and plug it up.

I bought a packet of 50 from JC road in Bangalore (Don't remember the name of the shop!) and used them whenever I need to put back the top.

Don't have that problem now since I have the hard top!

We have found a new source for FRP in Bangalore and are able to get it a lot cheaper.

This allows us to bring the price down for the top to between 50,000 to 55,000.

For those of you who have ordered the top and those that already have one - expect a nice cheque in the mail in the next couple of days! We will be giving you back the difference!

Thanks all for your support!

Default Thar Italian Hard top pictures

I came across a Thar CRDe in Mumbai with a Italian Hardtop.I also noticed chrome hood latches and an internal grill that i really loved.Enjoy the pictures

The Hard top was of extremely good quality and the vehicle had 4 sports seats(possibly Recaro). The winch appeared to be rewound(meaning used).

The vehicle was seen in Worli ( Thats all I am prepared to say)

Damn!!
Thanks for these pictures Rakchow!!
This means that what BD was saying is right.
So, there must be a way to procure these export only hard-tops locally, eh?
Wonder how much is this priced at. I couldn't find an entry for the hard-top in the customisation price list uploaded by Bopanna though.
Looking at that rear bumper and side-step, this vehicle seems like it has come out of Mahindra customisation.
Cheers,
Deepak

I agree with you partially "starter". The name plate on the hard top clearly points to a Roman supplier(with telephone number). The fact that this hard top is in india means that it can be sourced. My wishlist is getting cleared:
--Italian Hardtop
--SA rollbar
--AC
--Center Console

I just wonder if is possible to add a rear wiper and washer to the glass, a factory sourced winch and a front facing rear seat. (Am i Asking for too much here?)

To each his own.
To add a rear wiper and washer should be possible. But i wouldn't do it for the sheer complexity involved (piping for the washer, pump, electricals for the wiper motor and stuff.)
Regarding the winch, even M&M sources the winch from Warn/Ramsey/... You are better off buying it yourself from Warn directly. Works out cheaper.
For the seats, trust me. The factory seat ain't that bad. If you would need a better one, it is better you source one yourself and get it fitted. You can really source the one that really works for you.

Once you buy the Thar (or the Gypsy for that matter - both are really basic vehicles) and begin to use it regularly, you would realize that there are a lot of things you would want to change/improve.

Cheers,
Deepak

That really sounds like a complicated mod. Not to mention losing warranty and disconnection when the hardtop is removed. I was also looking at the alloys on this vehicle. Any idea on which alloys are these?

Rakchow

This is my dream Hard Top

Since you are aware of the registration number of the vehicle, why don't you kindly seek details of the source of the hard top from the owner of the vehicle?
(In Karnataka, the owner details can be traced out online, I'm not sure if a similar facility exists in Maharashtra).

You will be doing ALL of us a big favour.

Thanks in advance!
