Default Re: DIY air intake snorkel - with photos

Guys!! Was curious to learn a thing or two about snorkels.

As far as I understand, the basic function of a snorkel is to increase the capability of water fording. Secondarily, they also help draw more air to the engine. Fair enough.

Now, I've seen majority of snorkels are front facing. My question is the same as Tanveer's above. Torrential rains will draw in water too or do they drill a hole near the bend to drain water? Still, its not a foolproof system.

If the snorkel is facing backwards, as in the new Gurkha, how will it draw air as I suppose, the air will pass above it and around it. How will it enter the snorkel intake if its facing backwards?

So I think, the only workable design for an all season snorkel is this.

Pitch in your comments guys. Thanks and sorry for shoddy MS Paint job
