Default Mahindra OE pintle hook on Bolero

I have fitted a Mahindra OE pintle hook on my Bolero Di 4wd. It was mounted on a military MM550 pintle mount plate. Silencer tail pipe was cut and bent for the fitment of mount plate

hi,

i have not installed it as NGCS chassis dosnt have a K member which helps to distribute the load evenly.

so i (we ) need a PLATE to strengthen the cross member just as vak has done to his bolero.

so use a MM540/550 or Thar Plate, simple .. ahh not quite !!

see these pics

Compare them with these , you will see the problem.

BTW i am thinking (still thinking ) to make a custom rear bumper with a beefy L ot C channel to support the rear cross member.

rgds,
Nikhil

Hey Arka,
When you look at the first or the second picture in Nikhil's post, he is trying to match the holes on the pintle hook with the holes on the rear member. Only one set of holes match, but the other two holes are off.
I am not really sure, but i guess this is what he points to as the problem.
And no, i am not elaborating because you are an inexperienced member
Cheers,
Deepak

Hi Deepak,

Post 1993 the K-Member was removed, and 4WD vehicles had a plate to reinforce the Cross-member.

The MM550XD Plate or the Commander 750 Plate works better with the older vehicles.

Arka

hi Deepak,

you are correct.

see this pic.
if i fit the pintle hook like this it will hit body when i open it.

here
i cant drill hole in this position.

so i have to buy a new plate & drill the holes according to it. (red)

Dear Jeepster,

My Bolero 4wd had four holes at the rear cross member. The holes were welded with a small tube in each holes, going all the way to the other side of boxed section of the cross member. Please check the photo. I have used the military MM 550 pintle mount plate.

Vinshad Aziz

Dear Jeepster,

I have built and fitted a custom rear bumper on my Bolero 4wd. I thought this will be helpful for you.

It is not a full bumper but one in two pieces, similar to the OE bumper, but stronger. I went for the two piece design, as I didn't want to fit the pintle hook on the bumper. Moreover fitting pintle hook on bumper will compromise the departure angle. The bumper was made using four inch C channel. The bumper is strong and can be used for lifting the vehicle using a Hi-lift jack. The bumper is fitted on a improvised mount made of 6m steel. Picture shall be uploaded later.
