Default Gypsy Modifcations

A Big hello to all on this forum.
I just got a used Gypsy MG 410 HT, 93 Model and was getting it done for my use. I have a few questions :

1. I'm trying to get a 5 speed gearbox, probably a used MG 413 gearbox. I'm unable to locate any used ones in Bangalore. It would be great if someone gives me directions on how to find one.

2. The tires are no good and need to replace them, but don't want to spend too much on a new tires. Is any body aware of any used ones ? The tyre size is 205/70R15. Even if I go for new ones , will the 215 size fit on the stock rims?

Thanks
Arunmudgal

Arunmudgal,

Congratulations!

Getting the 5 speed gearbox of Gypsy King is difficult. I would suggest go for gearbox of baleno, esteem or isuzu and mate with gypsy engine. You can retain the 4 wd as it is because of divorced nature of the transfer gear box.

good luck

Hi arunmudgal

Firstly, congrats on your new acquisition. Please post some pics.

1. The MG 410 gearbox is built for speed/torque of the 1.0L engine and works well with the 4x4 transfer case. If you do not wish to retain the 4x4 then it will be easier to swap it for another 5 speed box. But if you do want to retain the 4x4 then I am not sure how well the gear ratios on a Gypsy King or any other vehicle 5 speed box work with the current engine.
Just something to think about before you make any changes.

2. You should be able to get 2nd hand tyres from scrap tyre dealers. You could also try and contact TBhp gygpsy owners in your city to see if anyone has changed their tyres recently and may still have tread on the old ones as people usually go for bigger tyres without depleting the current ones fully. I have 215 (tubeless) on my gypsy and these are fitted on the stock rims. No problems so far.

Cheers
Ankit

Yep, getting a Gypsy's GB will be difficult, but not impossible.

Baleno & esteem are FWD vehicles. so better leave that option.
If anyone want it, I can spare a Baleno G.B

I've driven an Isuzu diesel converted gypsy with isuzu G.B. The 1st gear was ultra low and it had 4 gears in effect ( 2 to 5)

215 tyres should fit. I think max size available for the rims are 235.

Do you really want 215's? Turnign the b**ch is a task even with the stock tyres!
