@jeepster:

The Thar has the BW T-Case with manual shifter. You can get the part numbers for Thar to convert.

@spike. I didn't mean to convert an electric transfer case to a manual shifter. I meant swap the whole transfer case from electric to manual.

Oh Ok, understood. Conversion (Electric to Mechanical) is not recommended for reliability reasons.

Folks, my Armada Grand electronic 4x4 is no longer working. After shuttling 2-3 Mahindra workshops, a senior tech at India Garage finally tells me this is a ECU problem and that they do not have a spare to swap and check. More so its too expensive (20k+) to replace (and they do not have it available). I am keen to know few things
1. Can the ECM be dismantled and repaired by any auto-electrician ?
2. Any ECM available in the market, cheaper that keeps it going ??
3. How do i convert to manual (BA-10) with out spending a bomb (keen to know if a part from the Thar TC can be adapted) ?

  • just like PC motherboards the ECM can be repaired but not many can do this. (depends on the part availability)
  • i dont know if we can buy a new custom ECM.
  • buy a manual borg warner, its shifter mechanism & install in your armada.
rgds,
Nikhil

BTW there is one manual borg warner + KMT90 for sell in Delhi.

Hi Vikram, I can give you ramesh number, as you mentioned he is reasonable, my only question how come a ECU in a armada grand, I am thinking Mahindra started using ECU only in Scorpio and bolero series,

All Electric shift Borgwarners have a ECU.

its for actuating the high & low ratios by Electro-magnetic coils.

As far as I understand these are the transmission/transfer case combination Mahindra made.

1) Three Speed Gearbox with T-18 T-Case with twin levers.

2) Four Speed KMT90 with T-18 T-Case with twin levers.

3) Four Speed KMT90 with T-18 T-Case with single lever and U shaped shift pattern. Most common on recent MM540/MM550s

4)BA10 with Electric/Mechanical Borg Warner T-case. Used in Armada Grand and earlier Boleros.

5)BA10 with T-18 Transfer Case with single lever and straight line shift pattern. Used in MM550 XDB.

6)NGT530 with Electric Borg Warner T-Case. Scorpio 4WD/Newer Bolero 4WD and Camper 4WD.

7)NGT520 with T-18 Transfer Case with single lever and straight line shift. Used in Legend/Major/Invader/Bolero DI 4WD.

8)NGT530 with T-18 Transfer Case with single lever and straight line shift. Used in Thar (Guess).
the best person to answer is Spike.

rgds,
Nikhil

EDIT

ask the dealer if the TC is aluminum or cast iron.

or rear prop. shaft out put.

if its aluminum with with rear out put in line with GB then its BW.

if its iron & rear out put is in line with front out pout, then its t18.

a small correction.

there is motor for a actuating the high & low ratios.

& a Electro-magnetic coil is used to actuate the clutch in the Transfer case. (one used for ON FLY change from 4x2 to 4x4high without stopping the vehicle )

the ECU monitor's & control's following.
  • Shift motor
  • Synchronizer Clutch (the one explained above)
  • Speed Sensor
  • Selector Switch
  • Motor Position Switch
rgds,
Nikhil

thanks Raju bhai (Sudarshan vaidya) for the correction.

BTW conversion from electric to manual is not recommended for BorgWarner.

Why, I'm told the electric is not as positive as the manual one and failure rates are high!!

If above statement is not TRUE, then why did the THAR come with manual TC?
