Default Gypsy 410 front wheel wobble

Hi All,

I have been faced with serious front wheel wobble between the speed of 60 and 70.

The wobble is so bad sometimes that when i apply breaks it becomes even worse. There is no wobble of any sort before 60 or after 70.

I have had this issue recently after I have put on new alloys. The alloys are of a wider wheel base and are off set by -32. Have done the wheel balancing 4 times at two different places but nothing has changed. Also the alignment is done.

What could be the problem? Several mechs have suggested different resons like the kingpin rods need to be changed, bearing issues etc.

Did any of you face such a problem after putting on wider alloys. Also suggest a good mech who would be able to trouble shoot the issue.

Do suggest a resolution.

thanx
Aj.

Looks like your kingpin needs some work done on it.
(I seem knowledgeable on this due to Q7A with my mech )

do PM me if you want to go to my mech

Try any mass and they should solve this. Sounds like the king pin, ideally replace it if its not a very expensive part.

Sagar near Naga Theater Ulsoor used to be good with Gypsy's. Haven't been there in a while, otherwise try Suraksha right after silk board towards hosur, we have many gypsy guys visiting them from TBHP.

A-jay, wheel wobbling can be due to several issues or can be combination of more than one.
You said you have changed to alloys recently. But What about the tyres??

These are the major reasons for wobbling
  • Faulty / Old tyres ( try swapping front and rear tyres and check)
  • Worn out/Damaged King pin and king pin bearings
  • Worn out/Damaged axle bearings
  • Faulty tie-rod ends
  • Faulty connecting rods
  • Worn out/Damaged knucke kit
But before you do any of the above take it to a good mech or MASS and ask them to to a test drive first then bring it back to garage - jack up the vehicle and run the engine in gear and check it and see exactly what is causing it.If your mech is good he should be able to diagnose the issue at this stage.

Or if they still cant identify. check all the above and may be you can just rotate the tyres between front and rear and also change the knuckle kit if its worn out .

Meanwhile check all the bearings and steering links to make sure they are in good working order. Dont just replace any working parts just bcos the mech think its faulty.

Let me know the results

If you are certain that its the front wheels then the recommendations are fine, however if the driveline is shuddering leading to a wobbling effect then get the Universal (cross) joints checked. If its a 1litre it may be time to replace them.

Hey Ajay,
Let me know if you plan to visit Suraksha. (the place which Jaggu has mentioned).
I get my vehicle serviced there. I know them pretty well.
I could give you the service advisor's contact number.
Cheers,
Deepak

Dear Ajay,
After the silk board fly-over, when you start driving further, you would find the new elevated fly-over to electronic city. Do not take this elevated fly-over, instead take the normal road and you would find a traffic signal there. Take a U-turn at this signal entering the service road on the opposite side. If you drive for about 150 metres, you would find Suraksha.
You could talk to Lokesh/Rajesh over there and they shall help you out.
Cheers,
Deepak

other than what has been suggested here, please check if if the rims are bent, gypsy rims do end up getting bent if they have been used badly.
