Hey Tejas,

I am in Oman . .if u need high lift jacks etc . .do let me know. Also I come very often to Mumbai, so luggage etc ..should not be an issue.

I am interested in the ground up build project of yours, do you have a thread already on the progress of your build, if not please can u start one .. might be a good idea to share ideas with newbies too.

Cheers!

Oh! OK. I will see if I can get a similar app for my android phone. Actually I have a compass app that shows pitch and roll as representative diagrams but not the angle values. I had seen some digital meters displaying the tilt and gradient angles. So I thought it was one of those.

Thanks and Regards,

For Android, you can try the Chinese compass / altimeter or similar apps - the problem is one has to use the app and read the data from it - we should be able to project the data from the phone on to the dash!

Waterproof Alternators not made? surely there must be a way of almost water proofing it. Anyways its the mud and grime that toasts your alternator not water. Still, my quest for waterproofing the alternator is on and i shall let everyone know about it when my quest is over.

Gogi Sir,

If the alternator is not a vented type {internal fan one}, you can just put a plastic cover over it while fording or during the trail. The Alternator will survive the trail.

If it is the vented type - have a splash guard fabricated to cover the splash area

Cheers

Get a set of plastic fender flares, they are light and will enhance the look of your Jeep not to mention protect you from slush flying on account of wider tyres. Also rear lamps and spot lamps etc

Also get a exhaust based car jack. Its a handy tool especially in soft sand situation where you need to lift the car. Also get traction ladders. The jack will also help you reset a over turned vehicle singlehandedly

Don't you think a jack rated for trucks should be able to do that?

Well i had this way back in 1986, & was used this for a M800, All you do is insert the pipe to the exaust & accelerate in nutral with hand brakes on, and the car will lift

Dont remeber the make, but it was good, one can handle this all alone,

What i've ordered as yet:

1. snorkel head
2. car megaphone
3. aircraft style flip switches
4. emblems (autobot and decipticon)
5. Tyre deflator (with spring loaded gauge)
6. LED dashboard light
7. Emergency car LifeHammer tool
8. Green light laser pointer for night spotting (half price of what it costs here)
9. Car use 12v portable electric kettle
10. ponchos
11. wading pants
+ misc camping items... mosquito repellants, gadgets, etc

tyre beads were interesting but i can't make up my mind on the mechanical ones or the internal types. so not ordered.

plastic fenders not ordered since they are bulky. difficult to carry. bro's coming with his 5month old daughter. so i want to be less of a nuisance.

dif guards will come from viji

air compressor... well i have something else planned. working on it.

air jack: when i'm in germany

Any other suggestions?

I'll be in germany from 22-26 March. So bigger shopping i'll do there.

Tyre beads are an interesting concept, but i doubt their suitability in very slow speed crawling. They may be of use only above a minimum speed. For that matter any wheel balancing..
