TVS Cochin is quoting Rs 5500/- for free wheel hubs to be put on Thar DI.Should I ask them to go ahead with the fitting or would it be cheaper to get them from Lambda Components, Bangalore and have it bolted on later. Can anyone enlighten me on the current factory price of the Lambda free wheel hubs .

What is the price of Auto locking hub?
Will it make more sense to invest in a auto hub, as it locks automatically once 4wd lever is engaged? Like crde..

Dear Mods,
What happened to the 4X4Addicts new thread about his Thar DI 4X4?
It was moved from here, but I cant see it now under '4X4 Vehicles' section anymore?

Is it removed? Please let us know as it was shaping up good for DI.

BTW, I had checked in to that thread today noon itself & now its all gone.

The posts in this thread have been assembly line section as team bhp no longer allows booking/buying experience thread. Complete driving experience is required to start a thread. I plan to do this after I cover 5K kilometers. Until then you can follow my thread on 4x4India group on facebook.

Hi 4x4addict,
Eagerly awaiting for your thread.

@the traveller: Any recent update? Have you shifted that joystick? How is fuel economy now?

BTW, to all Soft Top jeep owners, what is the best way to keep the jeep parked safe. Say on open roads or within building premises, but for longer duration?

What kind of security measures do you take?

@Mods: Sorry for posting it here in this thread, please move it to appropriate thread if required.

I have recently built an MM550 for Rs. 3.25 Lakhs with Sandgripper tyres on it and it is a very capable off roader.

In terms of crudeness and Mechanical failures both would be the same. Mahindra is not Toyota and we all accept that.

For Rs. 6.25 Lakhs on road price one would expect Air-conditioning in the vehicle.

Is the clutch in Thar DI 4x4 Hydraulic or dry type as MM550 ? But again it makes little difference I have a Bolero SLX with a Hydraulic clutch.

Here in Gurgaon, the pundits advocate against free wheeling hubs, citing frequent failures thus I got them removed from my MM550.

I see the "Black metal structure" mounted to the Spare tire in the rear; I do pray and hope it is a cycle rack, if it is I'd really appreciate some details on the same, been on the lookout for a rack for my MM540 for quite some time now.

Thanks and Regards

Good to see the THAR DI gaining acceptance. This week while on a vist to Patna, Bihar I saw a new fleet of Bihar Police cars, white color THAR DI vehicles.

Soon this will happen in other districts of Bihar as well and in other states of India this would have already happened.

As a replacement of old police Maruti Gypsies the THAR DI has started moving in. A great marketing achievement my Mahindra, this is a huge potential sales market and the product seemed to have gained acceptance and govt. clearances for Police Patrol Vehicle use.

True.. Infact, all the Jeeps bought by the forest department in Wayanad are Thar Di 4WD.

edit- Shackle lift is my personal preference. Shackle lift if overdone has its own downside
Vinod: Why not just replace the rear shocks from the CRDe to the DI? Shackle changes / lifts IMO is not worth the effort that we target!!

MM 540 i get @ 10km/ltr.
Rajith: Final drives are different and it is true that DI gives superior mileage to the CRDe. Always double digit figures.

Remember, its got a FIVE speed GB too to aid better FE

I have a Thar DI and have added a power steering from the Bolero and changed the diff ratio to 44/9. The vehicle was useless on the original set up. But has changed dramatically on the new ratio.
