Default Amphibious Ford Jeep - The Seep - used in Chennai Floods

Interesting to see a WWII vehicle is still being used and came to the rescue of stranded people in Chennai floods.

While the officers in Chennai first hesitated, they quickly realised how efficient the ‘amphibious’ jeep was in manoeuvring in deep waters. In Kotturpuram, Mr. Shankar braved strong currents of the Adayar river in spate to distribute food packets to stranded residents. “At one point, the current was so strong that I swirled with the vehicle. I had to hook the vehicle to a building and then distribute the food packets,” he said.

Shankar was so much in demand on Saturday that much of the food distribution to flood-affected colonies happened on his Seep. “When I looked at how the people were stranded, my conscience did not let me stay idle".
Now that's what I call a hero .

It's not easy to use a treasured family asset in this way. Considering how it performed, this classic is obviously well maintained. Hats off! This man has gone above & beyond the call of duty as an Indian citizen.

We were doing flood relief work in Chennai for the last 2 days. Our team did notice the Seep in Velanchery.

My Etios was literally swimming for most of the drive. Thanks to the vehicles in front and the help of local citizens who took the role of volunteers, we could figure out where the road is in many areas.

Kudos to the Indian Army, the normal citizens, NGOs, CRPF, NDRF ( National Disaster recovery team ) for their selfless efforts. State machinery, for some reason was completely missing from many places except in some areas where some senior police officers voluntarily co-ordinated relief efforts. Even they were pissed off with the kind of support they were receiving from the state.

One snap during the trip.

And this is what happened when we went to Chennai.

''A local politician landed up at our camp with his followers and demanded that we give him the relief material. He also threatened my friend who was helping us in our relief work.We opposed to his idea and later agreed to handover 20 cartons of water but he was adamant that we give him milk as well.Must to our dismay, we had to part with 20 cartons of milk after 'Negotiations'.A true face of our democracy where elected representatives loot the relief material meant for the needy''.

Waseem, incidents like these leave a bad taste in the mouth for people looking to help. Trust me you were not the only ones who had to face this, even my friends who were engaged in relief work experienced the same. But good on you guys that you still managed to get things done despite all this, may your tribe increase.

Copied from FB:

It’s raining in Chennai.
And it’s not just the skies that have opened up...
Many homes are letting in water, but quite a few are letting in guests.
The First floors are embracing the Ground floors.
Malls are welcoming footfalls, and that too without wallets.
Movie halls are counting box office numbers differently.
Hotels are giving out foods that aren’t leftovers for a change.
Marriage halls are solemnizing more marriages of souls than ever before.
Social Walls are tearing down their Civil counterparts.
140 characters are travelling faster than a ‘108’.
Taxi services are plying boats, MTC buses are plying like taxis.
Religious differences are being doused in a relentless downpour.
Politicians are knee deep in water and politics has sunk.
But Leaders are being born at every waterlogged junction.
Soldiers are being born at every dangerous turn.
And humans are being born at every deserving instance.
It’s raining in Chennai.
And it’s not just the skies that have opened up.

Waseem.....
