I recently saw this vehicle some time back in a Mahindra dealership, These days it comes with the same engine as in Bolero Di so the good part is its much more refined and tractable compared to the initial international tractor engine it came with decades back. Because much lighter than bolero and has shorter gearing its very peppy to drive for a jeep.

Downside is it still retains the same suspension, ride is horribly bumpy with bad high speed stablity and handling is again scary at speeds.

But off the road this is one of the best new production vehicle available in a showroom. Its a very popular vehicle in rajasthan and its still sells in good numbers there.

I second this completely.
All these fancy modifications as shown in the website, pictures etc are primarily cosmetic. Who wants that?
Why dont they listen to what we say over and over again?

Hello all teambhpians and Jeep gurus.
I am newbie in this exciting world of jeeps. I am closely watching this section " 4x4 & Off-Roding" for more than 4 months. Have started my efforts to acquire a CJ series beauty already. This month itself, I went for an auction on 23-10-2009 conducted by Kerala forest department, and the jeep was sold for 76K. It was not a 4WD, so i was not much interested and let it go.

Coming to the point, after reading through this section and the amazing pictures of OTR, I decided to buy a Jeep. There are two options now in front of me.

1. Brand new mahindra Major 4X4
3 Years warranty = Peace of mind
As i donít have enough funds, i have to wait 6-10 months
2. MM 540 from Avadi military auction
It is difficult to get one by directly participating in auction.
It will be under my current budget (1 Lac)

TVS trivandrum Had Made this offer for Brand New Mahindra Major 4X4

On road price included road tax, insurance and registration charges they quoted me Rs 4,81,000
I think it is a nice deal. But i have to wait for some more time to get this beauty as Vitamin -M lacks

I donít know, may be this is a stupid question...
Is there a chance that mahindra stop production of CL 550 in near future?

Another question, just because of my enthusiasm ...
Is there a possibility to become part of an Off-roading event without owning a 4X4 jeep?

Groovy..!! Get this on a OFFICIAL Proforma invoice (say a official quote) and post it here. Cant believe it!! Make sure Jeep isnt Accident (while on drive from North to Kerala) and such things. Go to the yard and check the jeep for yourselves. Check the manufacturing date.

4,81,000 is an absolute steal!! Iam thinking of replacing my MM54o with it already. Will check the quote here in chennai. Registration isnt an issue as it will be done outside chennai. Let me see:-)

I have seen the Major at the Hyderabad dealership. Don't know how much it costs but I think the 4x4 will be with XD3P engine as that is the engine on the Bolero 4X4 as well. Isn't NGT 520GB the one that is available on Bolero CRDe?

Hmm.. 36K discount on the only new Jeep model available in the country? What are they doing... clearing inventory? Making it cheaper to carve out a new segment for Thar?

Major doesn't come with the XD3P Engine. Only with DI Turbo in 4x2 and 4x4 form.

Bolero CRDe comes with the NGT530 and not NGT520.
