Yeah, the frame and all other attachments will be in dull black.

Should I paint the alloys too in dull black? I am wondering...

NO NO dont paint the alloys black!!! Paint the alloy same color as the body and the center of the alloys (center cap) black with a small army jeep logo inside it

BUT, do you have alloys or steel rims???

Sharath - I think the alloys definitely need to go black !! Chrome will be totally out of place now with your retro colour !!

Just went through your restoration thread. You have really become a 4x4 fanatic You seem to be dedicating a lot of time, effort and money for this project. All the best and eagerly hoping to see the completed Jeep !!

If I have steel rims, why would I want to paint the alloys? Anyway, you want me to paint the alloys n a bright color?

Dull black should go good with this shade. I am sure you are not bothered about scratches though.

Even dark grey will look good. There is a similar colored 540 in town with dark grey wheels and it looks good.

Sharath get them powder coated if you can. Its fairly inexpensive and far more durable and resistant to stone chipping. You get a matt finish black powder coating if you like

In my opinion Jeeps always look best when the wheels match the body color irrespective of whether its light or dark, may be a shade off! But thats just me, see the photo of my MM 540, if it rings anything...

I guess he says alloys, yes for a CJ (if rims) then it can be body colour it looks complete (in case painted in lighter shade) but at the same time we have jeeps with off white on rims which again gives a clean look if the body is painted in dark colour. But here they are saying alloys so as per DKG sir powder coated alloys will be a nice idea and durable aswell.

Sharath,

The wheels coloured same as the body is a unifying factor.
If you want the jeep to look bigger then go for body and wheels same colour.

If the diffs, chassis, wheels are are given a different colour than the body, the break up visually divides it, thus a dual coloured Jeep looks smaller than a mono coloured.

Power coat is definitely a good option however good matt finish, say 2 coats plus 2 coats matt laquer makes the end product look very similar to powder coating ...and all that for may be half the price of powder coating!

After coming back from the EXAMM & AKC, it was time to visit the garage again.

The paint work is complete.

The electrical work is still going on, while the other parts are simply dumped on the vehicle.

One of the issues I had with the Jeep is the rattling caused by constant hammering of the hood frame against the roll cage. That is being solved by bolting it to the roll cage.

I finally got the entire emergency brake kit from UBS, he handed it over in Lonavala. When I gave it to the mechanic, he was amazed to see it, he was familiar with it, but hadn't seen it in many years. This brake goes on the front propeller shaft. I am not sure exactly how it works. Once it is connected, I am going to lie under it and ask somebody to engage it.

I still don't have an end date in sight. The mechanic is not yet ready to commit a date of completion. It could be 10-15 days more.

Meanwhile Vinay's Jeep is ready for electric work.

Sharath,

Firstly congratulations, your jeep is coming out very well. I like the color. (something similar to my jeep! ).

I see in the pictures that there is no heat/sound proofing material (dont know the exact name of it) stuck on the firewall from both sides. (The engine bay and from inside the cabin) I dont know how important is this for open jeeps unlike MM540/550's, but this would be the best time to do this.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers

Samurai, your jeep looks great. I also like Vinay's jeep colour. Excellent read so far.

Cheers.
