I somehow doubt it although it did pick up pace when he started visiting everyday. It slowed down when he went to Punjab for a few days. All the major things have been done and it is ready for a rewire job tomorrow. Lack of planning on the part of the mechanic held the build up by at least 2/3 weeks with the fuel pump and head problems problem. The pump was fixed today and now works.

They started the engine today, power steering has been fitted. The body shop guys have painted the tub, gave the chassis another coat today and mounted the tub on the chasis. The seats came back from a reupholstery yesterday and looked as a 2 year old had done the job so getting that done again and should be done tomorrow.

I think if my cousin goes to the workshop everyday it will be finished middle of next week.

You will be quite surprised but the FP guy who is in another town did not even charge them (or not yet). I know a guy in England and his brother (who is very good friends with the FP guy) turned up at the FP workshop when my dad was there. So maybe he had a quiet word with him after my dad left.

@DK
The power steering is not installed as yet. WIll be done in the next week. and then I will post the pics

@ Ricky
I am waiting eagerly. I anticipate that it should have the jeep by the end of the month.

I dint ask him about the jeep as I am already building mine. If anyone is really and seriously interested only then PM me and we can take it from there.
I am now tired of entertaining just inquiries.

@bigman
Satnam, good to read that your jeep is coming about. Mine is still couple of week from delivery.

Default Update on the Work completed till now

Hey guys
  • The denting work has been completed
  • The front cross member which was cut by the old workshop for reasons unable to be understood by me has been replaced after sourcing a another one from another chassis in Mayapuri.
The mechanical work has been started today and is most likely to be completed in the next couple of days.
The power steering will be installed outside the front grille.

After this is done then the vehicle will be painted. I believe that this should take another week to ten days max and I should have the 550 in the 1st week or April,

Sometimes the cross member is cut to install the PS box (the rear of the PS box can be recessed slightly into the area of the cross member). If this is done then it should be kept to a minimum and stiffening plates added to keep its strength.

Yeah Satnam
This I know that he cut the cross member to fit the power steering. But just tryinng to understand the reasoning behind it. I had specifically mentioned that the vehicle will be used for OTR's and with this level of cutting the cross member, the complete reliability of the vehicles is at question.
Isnt It??

But anyways, I am going to keep this 4x4 for a long time now, and whatever fault, issue comes up I will be replacing it with genuine parts, wherever and whenever required!!!
Just got a call that the brake cylinder put by the old workshop are not genuine. I have asked him to replace with M&M original ones which cost 350 bucks each.

The thing that pains me alot is that in the bill given to me by my cousin shows
NEW BRAKE Cylinders TVS x 2 = 900 bucks .
Now what do I say to this!!!

I am off to Mayapuri now and the mechanic should complete the work by tomorrow evening and then its the paint and electrical's. So I think that by 1st week of April, the vehicle should be home...

Yes he has cut too much and without adding stiffening plates. Maybe he found it easier to cut a big chunk out rather than making a measured recess cut in the cross member.

How are the Mayapuri guys going to fit the PS ?

This guy completely removed the cross member and later welded in a custom fabricated one (looks like a scafold pole to me).

Another way to retain the original cross member and retain its integrity :

Hey Guys
The following work has been completed
  • Power steering installed
  • Timing belt set It was a little advanced
  • The brakes have been done
  • The axles were already fitted a day before yesterday
The mechanic will handover the vehicle today to the painter and then its another 10-12 days.
I have told the denter to install a post 2001 rear tail gate (complete). This has better support for the spare tyre the the one that I have.
