Default Russian Uaz-469, Ford and a Willy's

Hi Jeepers,

Well here are a few pics of a Uaz and a Willy's that are being restored at my mamaji's garage in Jaipur.

The Uaz-469 has been mated with a 2.8Lt Isuzu with 4WD and is nearing completion. Where as the Willy's came without an engine and so an Isuzu 1.8 lt petrol engine (HM Conty engine) has been installed in it. All other things remain same.

The sand coloured Ford is one of the most original Ford that you can come across. It has won several accolades at different rallies. The vehicle had not been started in 10 days and when we started it, it was half self start. Amazing vehicle.

Dont miss the amazing ground clearance of the Uaz. I just cant wait to get my hands on the steering wheel once it is ready.

Also please note the other Vintage cars getting ready in the back ground, for more visuals on those please visit the Vintage section.

Cheers and enjoy.

Randeep

Default Great auto heaven!

Some really amazing vehicles you have there. Where in Jaipur is this workshop. I would love to visit whenever I am there in Jaipur.

I have seen a similar kind of place in Udaipur at Hotel Ram Pratap. They have their personal Museum open only to guests. The owner has restored them on his own at a small personal workshop!!

Thats a CJ3A right people? I have fond memories of it.

My Grandpa had bought one for 4k in late 50s. My dad learnt driving on it and kept it in stock condition till early 70s when he shifted to Delhi. It was parked in our garage for next 7-8 years when dad and my uncle again started using it for local village rides. I remember going on drives with dad on dusty village tracks in our native village in Rajasthan. Again it was parked for next 10-12 years under the sun and we did'nt realize when it came on bricks. Plants grew from under its body. Man I feel so sad when I think of it. I wish I was all grown up at that time. It was then given away to one of our distant relative without my knowledge who I hear has restored the body work but not in original condition. I still have the original L134 engine as these guys fortunately took it away without the heart. They installed an old 540 Peuguot engine (I hope the spelling is correct) as they wanted a diesel motor. I am now trying to locate it and want it back. Can you guys imagine, it was given away for free without any paperwork!! and is still in my grandpa's name,

I am trying my best to get my hands back on it.

Guys I am not even sure if its the CJ3A or its military sibling the M38 as dad says it was a civillain version but uncle says it was a military one. (they both dont remember what was written on the plate as those years these vehicles did not carry such value)

Wish me luck! Hope I will soon get to restore it back to its original form.

Default What a thread

@randeep04

Great pictures. Your uncle might be a very reputed restorer, that's why he gets so many vehicles.

BTW, can you please tell me more about the winch on the Willy's bumper? What make is it? What price? Where can we get one? Does it fit on a Trax Gurkha/ Mahindra Getaway/ Maruti Gypsy?

This is also what caught my eye. The vehicles are wonderful. But so is the shop they are sitting in. Up here where I am somebody recommends a shop to me. They say the guy in charge can do miracles and rebuild from the ground up. I go there and find out that his "shop" is the size of a tea stall and he does all his work outside. He is not there the day I go because a monkey has stolen his screw driver.

Note the Rolls Royce and other old cars in the background.

Hi Guys,

My mamaji has been running the workshop since 1990. His workshop is professional to the core. You need to see the paint job done on the vehicles, he has two paint booths which are state of the art. The denters and painters are among the best from Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Sir Alec sorry but i do not have more pics on the LR but when i'm there next i shall surely click more.

Kandisa, the Willy's has the Conty gearbox (2WD) installed along with the conty engine.

Yeldo the winch is GEW6000 1000LB costing approx 10K. Personal advise, not a good make.

Cheers !!!

Randeep, Any idea on how much time does it take for a denting & painting job on 550. Also some approx idea on the cost aspect would be very useful
