I would'nt worry about that, the jeeps are never going to be used for hardcore offroading, that job belongs to the Jonga. The are just used for traveling to the orchards in the village. Besides, both jeeps have been bought from Apple farmers from Himachal, so its got a very heavy duty and stiff suspension, so rubbing is out of the question. Since i too would be loading it a little bit, therefore i don't want to anything whith the leaf-springs.

There is always a negitive side to everything, i too was thinking of the same but then if you look at the brighter side its much better than damaging the body every time you go offroading.

Hi ssarmast, I got the tyres for rs8500/- each tyre thats about 6months back. now its rs10,200/- each tyre in retail. Yes they are maxxis mudzillas. If you cant get them i can arrange a set from a friend who knows the importer might get it cheaper.

There are a few shops around here that still sell these at the old rates. I've never seen the Mudzillas in sizes larger than 31". Are they available?

They are only available in 31x11.5-15, but there are some new tyres also come out in maxxis. see Overdrive magzine april issue page no159.

Yes, but the rubber compound ain't as soft as the mudzilla's. Besides, i want to get 33"'s. or if i can find stronger axles than the jonga ones(almost the same strenght as Dana44's, but the front is stronger than the Dana44), then i'll go for 35"'s. Using shortened Tata407 axles is also a choice, but than i'll have to do something about the huge knuckles and the stub shaft. Also the hevier weight of the 407 axles will be an issue since the cummins is already a quintal and a half heavier than the original petrol motor.

The fatter diff housing on the 407 axle will defeat the purpose of 35" tyres. How do you plan to aquire TSLs in India?

The Tata407 axle though bigger than the Dana44 and the jonga axle, is still a bit smaller than the Dana60. Infact the ring(crown) dia. is somewhere near 9", maybe a bit smaller than that, but thats only slightly larger than the 8.5" in the Dana44 and jonga axle. Even the spider gears are only as large as the Jonga spider gears, but they do have a lot more splines. The reason why the 407 axle looks large is that the axle housing tube are beefy. Anyways, there is no other way to mount a 35" tire without breaking things in a locked axle, other than using a ford 9", Dana60 or any equivalent axle. Even abroad, only very light vehicles like a flatfender can cope with 35" on a locked Dana44. Even wranglers have been known to break Dana44's, unless they run aftermarket shafts.

I have been ordering and sending auto stuff through fed-ex, mostly things like pistons, sleeves, and other stuff, all writtern as old parts, and without the original packings, so was'nt taxed. If the tires are a little used they can easily come through without any tax. I asked a relative of mine in the U.S. to by 33"boggers that had only done 100miles, but i'll sell them if i plan to go bigger.
