| BHPian | Hi Everyone, Here are a few pics of us fooling around in our Willy's. It was bought as it is and just painted on. We plan to restore it just as it were in 1944. Also posting pics of my cousins Kaiser. Once my MM540 is modified, I shall post pics of that too. Cheers n Happy Jeeping !!!!!!!! |

Infractions: 0/1 (5) | Nice...a jeep as your daily drive...tell me something, how is it long distance and stuff? I am in the market for a car, but wouldnt mind a nice diesel jeep. My only concern is reliability over longer distances! I did use my Willy's everyday for about a year to potter around town. The Gbox and the clutch set up is not good for stop go traffic. Mechanical wear and tear is quite high. |

. did it with a decent speed of 80-90kmph. for me it is more than enough. only pit stop was Hassan for few minutes. hassan to bangalore was a non stop drive. never felt underpowered on highways. and yes without free wheeling hubs. if you really want it like a car as well as jeep, i could suggest you to get a mm5x0 with a xd3p, overdrive gearbox, brake booster, PS and a hardtop to have A/C and to protect ICE. in city driving conditions, yes the mechanical wear and tear quite high comared to highway driving, but it is hardly the clutch and the synchronizers in the gearbox which are subjected to wear and tear. and clutch is really hard to go away soon in jeeps as you have lot of options in upgrading it to a heavy duty one which are used in pickups. in city i just use only 3rd and 4th gear most of the time. so there are very less gear changes. and 2nd is more than enough to move the vehicle from stand still. 1st gear is hardly used and i use it only to crawl in traffic jam with no foot on ABC. and i use brakes very less as i can control the vehicle with just a accelerator. as soon as i release the accelerator, the speed will be decreased unlike cars. ![]() | |

| Senior - BHPian | correct. 2523 cc engine, then 2549 cc engine in MM550DP. also the gear shift lever had a bend in it -certainly felt much better to drive. the mm540 and 550 were at one time being sold simultaneously - around 1994-1997. we had both at one time.
