Hi All,

Update Time!!!!

Firstly sorry for late updation.
Last week during Republic day weekend , I was there in Kolhapur for 3 days and happt to see my Jeep work was going on well. Following things happened in the last week.

1) Engine dismantled fully - Cleaning started for all parts of engine with diesel.

2) Body Tub taken out from Chasis - Body Tub work is going on -

Floor cleaned and weilded sheet if damaged any portion

B pillar roof support repaired to its original position which was damaged because of Crain Ropes
Front grill repaired and Fenders were being repaired

Entire Chasis cleaned with diesel and detergent with wire gauge throughly and with water in servicing centre

Avadhut (our head technician) dismantled front wheels and removed all thicked grease from knuckle, bearing. Axles removed and cleaned with diesel
Brake assembly also removed and cleaned .New Shock abs set purchased for front

3) FIP given to Lucas TVS for caliberation - will get it today after caliberation

4) Engine/Head/piston given for job work and caliberation - Engine /Head/piston is ready . Only it took time because the cylider sleeves are more thick than any other vehicle

5) Leaf springs work going on - will change only if any cut or damaged. But looks like no cut anywhere. When I was there the dismantling of Front suspension started in my presence only.

6) Starter and alternater has gone for overhauling

This weekend I can not go to see the progress due to work commitments but next week again I will go and check the same. Till that time I am expecting following work to be completed

a) Engine assembling - Will try to start the engine after assembly
b) Complete Chasis/Wheel/Brake work including the painting and antirust coating on Chasis
c) Complete Body work with all repaires - will check if body alignment can be done keeping body tub on chasis
d) Will try to paint underbody with antirust.

Lets see how much I can complete .

Again I am requesting all of you to give your feedback on the progress and also post some pics inside 550 to come to a conclusion for look of the Jeep.

Hi Harjeev,

I am expecting to start engine in next week only , may be on next saturday or Sunday . Till the time Avadhut will aeemble the engine and if he works faster then it may start before also(in that case I will not be there to hear that sweet sound) Lets see if it happens early also I have no issues.
I am planning the Army color only - Olive Green But Super Glossy . I may just tinker(bit darker) the shade to avoid exact resemblence with Army Jeep but not much. I want to retain the same shade as Army Green .

I forgot to mention I am planning to put set of Bucket seats in front and Innova middle seat(Flat seat for 2 - Not Bucket one) in the rear. I am searching for nice set of bucket seats for front . My brother has got a link of CR-V front seats but the negotiations are on.

BTW You were talking about some soundproofing in your thread , can you pls explin it? Also post some interior pics of 550

Hi Freinds ,

Just a small question about the Gear box /differentials ratios for both - normal and 4x4 gear box for my 550.

How will I know that the ratios are correctly adjusted on gear box. Is there any tool for it or any caliberation has to happen for this?
I am sorry if I am not able to ask the question correctly.

If needed I will give the exact gear box and diff nos.

Pls help.

Tarkesh

A question for Ricky and Major

is Olive green color allowed on civilian jeeps ?

And what about the jeeps auctioned off from army ? Can we retain the same color ?

Also, can we have the camouflage color scheme which i have seen on army gypsies ?

Hi Sunny,

Not exactly the same Olive green color but bit tinkered so

I am planning the Army color only - Olive Green But Super Glossy . I may just tinker(bit darker) the shade to avoid exact resemblence with Army Jeep

I think camouflage is not allowed.

The heater plug though important, I think that the engine should be able to be started without it too?? Wont it???

Yes you can start a diesel set even if the glowplugs are not functioning. I used to own a VW Golf which was started a few times by the RAC when the glow plugs needed replacing. They used to spray some sort of starter air spray down the air intake whilst cranking the engine continously. Eventually it would start and I could drive down to the local auto repair place to get new glowplugs fitted.

If say 2 glowplugs are gone you can turn the ignition on and off a few times and it may start.

If you are really stuck then there are a few sellers on ebay although shipping to India etc may slow down you restoration by a few weeks. My father is flying over next week so if you can find some on ebay or a UK retailer I can ask him to carry to India and post to you.

Thanks Harjeev and Bigman,

I will try . But can you pls help me in getting the exact no of Heater Plug because the mentioned plug is not fitting into the engine and as per the Spare part dealer the Part no should be different as this is army spec engine.

Pls help me in this as anyways I would require these new set of heater plugs .

You guys can probably see your heater plug nos and let me know as you also have same 550XD - XD3) engine (mine is 1999 model)

Regards

Tarkesh
