Default Trak-lok LSD

Today I finished work on the rear axle. Replaced the OE crown and pinion with a lower ratio set.

I was planning to convert the rear axle to full floating type, and bought some parts for it in Mayapuri. The flanged axle shaft turned out to be an inch too short, had no oil seal seats and one of the spindles was slightly eccentric. I am retaining the semi-floating setup for now. Please be careful with any FFRA conversions carried out in that area.

@Siralec

The golden jeep was always rubbish. It was living on life support all these years. It is going to be scrapped now. It has an Isuzu engine and GB, which are impossible to fix as spares are not available, and it is a 2WD.

@Harjeev

I have seen the 'is born' series. It is quite interesting to watch. I will give the cost breakup one the vehicle is ready.

Default axles rebuilt

The axles have been rebuilt with new ring and pinion sets. All the bearings and oil seals were also replaced.

I will be runing on my 235/75R15 Michelin AT tyres initially as the tyres I have ordered will take time to arrive.

The transfer case and GB have been stripped. A PTO will be installed during reassembly.

Hi Alfa_Kilo, I am excited to know about your new workshop in Jaipur. I will surely meet you and your MM550 there. It seems to a great project. Pls keep update your thread. Posting some question which are in my mind..

33" tyres :: which rims and tyres are you planning to use (tyre size pls).
The fuel tank will be lifted :: pls post more detail on this. Seems good.
Snorkel air intake :: I always dreamed about it and hopefully I will take your help in future on this. \
replace the rear LSD with a differential lock :: Why???? I guess by fitting an LSD, you Jeep will perform better in soft sand and mud.

POWER STEERING :: pls do not forget about this.

You are welcome to see my place when you are in Jaipur. I am installing 33-10.5R15 (actual dia 32.8") BFG MTs. I wanted 8.25R16 Michelin XZLs but they harder to locate than hen's teeth.

The stock LSD is worn to the point of practically being an open diff. A diff lock will come later...

I will NOT install a power assistance as it makes the steering too numb. I had a 540 with 235/75R15 tyres (at 25psi) and manual steering was perfectly OK for me then.
