Hi Spike,

If the Traction Bar binds the suspension, then definitely it will cause strange vehicular reactions.

Also A Shackle is connected at the end/Chassis to allow for Flex.

Wrt to diagram holds true in both cases of Coil Spring and Leaf Spring.

But the Position of the Leaf Spring and how the Axle is Located (SUA or SPOA) negates this irregular behaviour.

Arka

Arka, but according to the links mentioned by you, this "Axle wrap" behavior is possible in both these combinations, although predominant on SPoA setup, any reason for this?

Hi Spike,

Axle Wrap is caused in SUA and SPOA setup.

1) In SUA it is caused when the leaf pack is soft/become soft.
i.e Sanjay David's JEEP

2) SPOA it is caused because of the location of the Axle underneath the Leaf Spring, and the changes to the orientation of the U-Clamps and Plate.
i.e change in triangulation compared to SUA.

Arka

@Arka, how and when does the spring gets soft? Ageing?? what "traingulation" are you referring to?

Hi Spike,

The Spring gets soft due to

1) Age
2) Overload
3) Improper spring pack
4) After Market Leaf Springs
5) Orientation - SUA/SPOA

TRIANGULATION - Axle Dead Centre X Leaf Spring Eye X Leaf Spring Shackle Eye

Axle Wrap Prevention

Yup! It now has the same wheelbase as a Bolero, (2680mm) vs the old wheelbase of 2430mm.

Default Devastataing look

Your jeep has devastating look! That additional length is very nicely hidden due to SPOA and almost square cabin. Sun roof is a bit over the top i feel

Anyway bring your baby on road and off it. Any soft top design in mind to cover the rear portion and sides? How are you making the cabin A/c friendly?

Thanks for the comments man! Honestly, the sunroof was lying around with me for about 2 years and the extension of the jeep made the length just right for the fitment and hence decided to go ahead. Its not that I spent money to buy a sunroof.
The sides are going to be covered with black SRF's PVC material, which is really strong. I am thinking openable sides which can be zipped shut. Lets see how good the liner is.

What should my diff ratio be for 34" tyres Arka? My present setup with 235/85R16 tyres and diff ratio of 4.88 runs pretty well.

Hi Beboy

for 31" (7.50X16) it is 4.88

235-85-16 is 31"-32" so for that 4.88 is ok.

255-85-16 is 33-34" so for that 34/31 X 4.88 = 5.35 (5.38:1)

You can always try 255-85-16 with 4.88 and switch to 5.38:1 later on.

Regards,

Arka
