I have only driven one Gypsy, that is a king MPFI 2009 model. I think all kings get 13 to 15 on the high way like mine do.May be it deffer gypsy to gypsy. What I
meant to say here is that new Gypsies give better mileage.

This myth about pertrol consumption is probably related to MG410 not MG 413.
IndrojitSircar & praveen4554: Thanks. Yes it sucks petrol like water. Right now I am running it in petrol. I have a gas kit too but there is no gas tank, as the earlier owner was using gas Cylinder. I will use it once I service the gas kit and fit a gas tank. I am planning to go for 35Kg Capacity (Wagon R) type.

Price of gas per/kg is Rs30. Mileage will be 6 Km I heard.
Right now in petrol Rs 50/Ltr and am getting 8-9/Liter.

Hey Krishna, the restoration has come out well.

The Pleasure of driving the Gypsy will go away with Gas. I would recomend getting it tuned by a proper tuner & be soft on the acclerator for a decent mileage.
Just my two bits.

From Agrahara Circle go towards Agrahara Police station, then take first left after Cycle brand Agarbathi building. You can see a board XXXXX Cushion and top woks. (Sorry, I am not able to recall the name of the shop). It’s the only Cushion workshop in that road. Let me know if you need more info.

Hey Krishna
I had gas on my king (the kit is still there but disconnected - and its for sale!!!) I have done OTR's and long drives on gas. I used to get a mileage of about 10(city) -12(Highway) KMPL.
The power drop was marginal in normal driving conditions.
I switched to petrol as I use the gypsy to ferry around about 1 ton of load and under these extreme conditions i used to have a serious drop in mileage (used to get about 6kmpl)
The kit I have is a BRC kit.

Please do not use the home gas cylinder as its illegal and risky.

Cheers
GB

Do PM me if you have any more questions

Hi Krishna,

Congrats on the outset of getting such a great job done. Just sometime back I had come across a white 4x4 in a similar condition with a lot of rust on its underbody and I did not take it, wish I had done it and now would have been a proud owner of one...

Anyways, I wanted to comment on your quote above: if you compare the figures that you have quoted, the price per km on gas will be Rs. 5 and on Petrol is around 5.5 @ 9kmpl. So just for the 50 paise savings you will be going on to gas, which will lead to a host of other problems. And as Rossi said, please get it tuned up properly and go a bit easy on the accelerator, and you will have no regrets..

GB: I saw your gypsy parked in Indranagar last week. The Front bumper is removed.

I have a kit fitted already, I am looking for a gas tank only. Preferably 35ltr. Wagon R type. What is the capacity of your gas tank and will you sell only the tank?

an_and: I have replaced my old Carb with a mikuni carb, Now the milage problem is solved i guess. Also changed the fuel supply, so that excess fuel goes back to the fuel tank.

I didnt check the milage after the alteration. Will check it soon.

Krishna

Hey Krishna
The front bumper went for painting but liked the look and have left it as is, and I stay in Indiranagar.

Do give me a call, and lets see if we can work something out for the tank.

Cheers

Hi all,

Since many days I was spending time on fixing others small problems in my Gypsy.

Recently I managed to get a Carb, this solved the engine getting off in low RPM.

This Saturday I got some interior work and also fitted the Music System. Sunday I Asked the mechanic to replace the Star joint (Front Shaft) and fit it. I also told him about the 4x4 lever getting stuck specially when shifting back to 2WD. He looked like an expert, he fitted the lever and tried shifting the Gear, and it was working all fine. I took it for a trial, went around 200Ft then I tried shifting back from 4WD to 2WD and there it goes, stuck again.

I walked down and asked the mec to check it again.

Later another mec was called, within 2 min he said, the problem is due to the lever sitting below the expected level and hence getting stuck and this needs shifter sheet (bushing) to be replaced. It was replaced and now its working fine.

Rmonie had said the same in July. The problem could have solved long back. I was lazy to go and get this work done. Anyways now its all fine. Thanks for all you people.

Biggest problem was, the earlier owner has changed the original gear lever to some other.
