Hi JeepMkd,

That was a long vacation!

Not much has progressed on this project, due to various reasons or it would be out by now for on and off road tests, much before undergoing the cosmetic transformation.

Since you chopped off the oil sump to accommodate the front PS, how much did you lose in terms of oil capacity? I too will need to do the same as predicted by you, but plan to compensate the chop-loss. Or as Arka suggested a 540 oil pan could be the next alternative if it is compilable.

The KMT-90 GB was a direct fit except for the mismatch of the clutch/ pressure plate fastener holes...which was easily solved by new threaded holes in the pressure plate to suit the holes of the clutch plate.

How is your XD2 doing with the KMT-90?

Arka, Spike,

Please advice, which hand brake cables for this GB, KMT-90 (in pic.) and the 550 rear diffs. so that they dont hang about on the SWB 3B.

The only trouble (if it could be called like that) was actually fitting the starter. As I presume, the Peugeot engine has a 220mm or 230mm wide clutch disc as opposed to the 240mm the Ford has. Therefore, the bell housing is slightly tighter and new holes (2 in total) were drilled and threaded to distance the starter off the engine block.

As of now (and it has been 12-13 years) there was no need to compensate for the oil loss caused by chopping the sump. The oil pressure is always constant, but if you feel unsure and if you can find a proper sump do the conversion. My dad chopped it because you already know that there is no way to find a Mahindra sump over here.

I'll finish the write up in my thread when I'll get pictures... the only thing I'm missing is a camera because I managed to lose mine.

Dear All,
The XD2 was doing fine and was torquer on road but there was excessive engine noise that dampned all other sounds.
In short had to change that one and replace it with a XD3P (wip) photographs attached.
Also in all probability will fit an AC here, just a bit later.
Earlier all general work, GB, suspension etc. were completed.
Will update on Monday.
Request the moderators: To change the CJ 3B in the title of this thread to CJ 340.

Fazal sir, - your attention to detail on the paint on the engine shows what this is going to be. You didnt get a chance to share these detailed WIP pics on the white/orange/brown beauties, thanks for this thread.

A few questions.

1) You say this is a CJ340, did the 'door' to access the engine head from REAR come standard? I dont think so... looks like a AFM job, right?

2) But since it is there, gives me ideas to make one for myself, would come in handy while getting a 'oil-cooler' fit ask Arka, you may need one...

Hi Santosh,
I am fitting the oil cooler from the XD2 on this engine.
Arka Sir, has been my main reference source.
I don't think the rear access door was stock, but it was there when I bought this Jeep.

Congratulations... How many more tasks remain? AC, 4x4, body condition?

What is the weight difference between this engine and the original one? Does it cause any inconvenience or has it been taken care of?

Following this thread closely.

MaSh

Its great to see the engine ignited. You have achieved the biggest milestone. As you have already mentioned that itís a super silent engine, please share us the Noise and vibration level with compare t other Indian version XDPs.
Thanks
Srinivas

Jaggu,
Lets say we are just lucky to still have the Jeep mechanics, denters painters and guys who still know their job and don't treat a Jeep like a car. It is the passion that has fueled employment and kept the expertise in continuation for the men behind the scenes and us.

Santosh,
Thank you, I did not realise it until you mentioned.

Srinivas,
Sad part is that XD2 is meanwhile kept aside as I could not source one part for it, everything else is available. I ran it about a month back, it was smooth as expected and also torquey, it was making a racket, noise due to badly scratched pistons. I could have ignored the noise but couldn't.

I will make it run once I can source the pistons, as everything else has been worked upon it and it is a beautiful engine.

MaSh
Mashmash,
The AC needs to be done after I get this thing going to my satisfaction.

I have not checked the weight difference between the two but it should hardly be much as the sizes are the same. They both fit on the same foundation brackets like a glove.

Body is in good condition but the paint and other cosmetic surgery will have to wait until I do up all the mechanicals first.

However, yesterday after cranking for about 10 seconds we put it off, until we connected the water lines, air cleaner etc. ran it again for about 30 minutes and there is diesel dripping from the pump and oil from the timing cover oil seal which was brand new, but had to open it. Also got the pump checked and serviced, new nozzles are going in today as there was erratic, crude running of the engine due to the pump and nozzles.

Serviced pump, new nozzles and Arka's valuable advice, the engine did 6 hours and temp did not cross the 80 mark.
