I think fuel tank at rear is a bad idea for offroad pup, i would say keep it at the rear but inside the tub.

Jaggu,
You are right about losing on the break over angle here, after much deliberation I made this choice, favoring a larger capacity tank. It is not practical to have the tank inside the cabin with smell of diesel, more over the filling point will need to go higher than the body line at the sides.

Keep scraping the tank shield is the best option, I guess.

On second thought, let me check out the possibilities tomorrow.
6 inches at exit means a lot in off roading.

If the tank sits within your leaf spring perch points, you will not have issues. But please do not have the tank inside the tub. You may have problems. I've tried and failed!

Get a new age plastic tank with proper caps with rubber O ring seal, you will have no problems

I dont think they will be that costly Fazal saab. I say really worth it, even if you dont have the opening in the body what is the problem. Its a soft top, just lift the top and fill her up!

Will the windshield and grille survive? Will let you know soon.

A bit more progress as on today. I am looking at another 10 days at the body shop, which includes getting things done from my end after finishing and detailing of the whole shell.

Regards,

That is the fuel tank shifted to the rear
(sorry Jaggu), bottom level about 2" below the leaf spring shackles. Also notice the gap between the springs and the tank after the rear spring shift on side beds, it would be about 2" otherwise.
Tail pipe to the left.

The unfinished bonnet. The new fenders are 11 1/4th" wide as against the original 9 3/4th". I don't intend to use the Classic type fiber extensions which are 1 1/2" too. Slightly reduced the dog ear overhang on the front of the fenders.

Air vents and fuel inlet provisions.

The tub, recess in tyre wells for bucket seats.

Tail lamp position, tyre well recess and widened fenders.

Bolero hinges, with a 6mm plate reinforcement from inside (thanks GTO).

Tail pipe yet to be fixed at the tail end and sawed.

Regards,
Dear Fazal Sir, What a project this has been. Wonderful transformation.
Your attention to detail has always impressed me.

I think you are in the wrong industry w.r.t your career. You should be in the auto industry building cars/ 4x4's than designing buildings.

You are also blessed with the best tinkers in the country around you in Hyderabad. I envy you on that part.

Just to give you an example.. I have never seen anyone taking so much of effort to make one silencer for his Jeep.

All the Best with your Dog 2 project. Looking forward to see it completed soon.
Cheers
Shibu

Shibu,

Thank you.

I love my career as an interior designer, that is where I get my 'attention to detail patience' I guess.

Yes, thank God, there still are good Jeep related professionals on the job here.

Ah! the silencer...I wanted it to be sitting inside the skid plate, without the right angle "L" bends like on 540. Using a 2" CR tube, so as to suit the 2.5L engine exhaust, with least contact and vibrations passing on from the engine to the body.

Drawing out the brackets for auxiliary light and indicators which are not from Mahindra, but should suit this Jeep.
Regards,

Dear Fazal,
It definitely does. Anyone in his right senses shld always keep learning. I did associate your sense of aesthetics and detail to your career choice. Nevertheless, I still feel I could be a student under you...

I love the rear tail gate-less design, even i would love to have it done ie if it gets into a total cosmetic restoration mode. With rear seats those gates are totally useless
