My friend's scorpio got stolen even though it had immobiliser.. So I am not going with it, but there would be something which will not allow my Jeep to start without my permission..

Immobiliser does not work if the engine does not have an ECM.

Cant you just buy a immobiliser and wire it into a few circuits like the fuel pump etc etc.

The concept of an immobiliser is quite different. There will be seed and key exchange between the ECM and Immobiliser unit. And ECM knows the key. Only if the Immobiliser is athunticated by the ECM, will release the fuel. Releasing fuel means the ECM starts functioning or else it is just a dead ECM. In other terms, the ECM is immobilised.

No it does not work on MM550. It works only with electronically controlled injectors. But you can try to do your own immobilser with a transponder and reciever by programming it with your own algorithm. You can do with a simple RF tranciever. Through the reciver unit you can power up the solenoid switch on the diesel pump. But some one will open the bonnet and redirect the solenoid connection to battery or ground to steal your vehicle . So too much of effort and less protection. It is not worth for this application.

I meant a unit like this one:

Sterling 'Touch' Category 2 Immobiliser NCS - Systems

Would work fine as far as i can see.

I think the one in the link is a bit pricey. I picked same brand unit up for 20 but not got it installed in our 550 yet.
