One thing that bothers me is the roll cage.
  • What kind of roll cage will the soft top Thar have?
  • If it doesn't come as stock, will there be a part number later?
  • Are the buyers responsible for making their own roll cage?
  • What happens in hard top model, will it have an inbuilt roll cage?

Ideally M&M should have a roll cage on offer as standard equipment but if they don't then atleast as a accessory that can be fitted by the dealer. The hardtop would require a roll cage too as if its made out of frp it won't offer much roll over protection would it?

Dear Wolf - yes, I believe that the Thar will ultimately create its own segment which will have a critical mass market attached to it. You can indulge in "Sports" of rally raiding / off roading, you have the "Utility" of driving it to cruise anywhere at continuous 3 digit speeds without your backside getting knocked off and it is a "Vehicle". Thank you. I will always cherish your wonderful comments. .

I don't think the guys on this thread will be the ones in the window, they'll be the ones doing the whooshing (i have my wife's permission to say so).

Congratulations Sir and we look forward to the nimble goat .

DKG and Samurai,

The following posts clearly indicate that the rollcage will only be a dealer fitment option. I hope the hardtop (when developed) will also have rollcage as standard.

The 4X4 Thar should have a roll cage as standard fitment. No two ways about that. Nearly two decades ago when Mahindra launched the Classic with a roll cage as standard why not the highly evolved Thar? A hardtop too can have a roll cage underneath it.

A roll cage has immense practical appliance and value when it comes to safety. Let the evolution translate into technology as well as cosmetics.

To Mass produce a vehicle is NOT easy and hence it never made it to the market.

Similiar to what is on my Classic.

I prefer something like this:

1. Whether HT/ST roll cage will not be a standard fitment (as of now).
2. Yes part number will exist, do you want the part no. now?
3. Buyers can make their own roll cage if they so desire, mountings for Roll cage will be provided.
4. Refer point 1.

DKG Sir, it can be offered as an accessory along with many other things, Vinod is looking into it.

Fazal Sir, as you know it has to be a 7 seater (with side facing/inboard seats). With a seating layout for 7, roll over bar will have to give way.

Thanks Spike, good to know there is a part number. I hope it can be installed under the HT too.

Spitfire, none of us have seen the Indian version of Thar. No point looking at the export version in the autoexpo or the prototype that came to OTR. The prototype even had snorkel!

Not even the half roll cage seen in the pictures is part of the standard equipment? For a soft top?

BD? Spike?

Would such a vehicle pass regulations with respect to safety?

Please gimme the part number. We can use the same RC for our 540s

What else will the buyer have to make apart from the RC Spike?

BTW, Is not the B pillar in the 540 design, built to withstand a rollover with internal stress members? Or am i mistaken here?

A rollcage for the looks IMO would defeat the purpose!

I have a question for those who drove the thar. Is it as cramped as the scorpio in front, or more.
I am 6'2" and on the passenger seat of the scorpio with seats pushed back, my knees almost touch the dash.
Is it worse in Thar, or better? What about driver comfort for 6 foot+ people. anybody can post some interior pics with somebody tall sitting?

The one shown on Auto Expo is not production intended. Please see the attached pic, where will you mount the seats (7 seater configuration) if a roll cage already exists

The buyer does not have to make anything, all mounting provisions are available he just needs to get the required amount of hardwares (Bolts, washers, lock nuts etc), installing a roll cage will be a bolt on fitment.

Spike

PS- It needs to be mentioned that roll cage if not installed in the right way/position may kill the occupants rather than protecting them.

I guess that is one key reason why prospectives are hoping it will come factory-fitted.

Default Is Thar going to be a 7er?

I don't quite understand how I missed out on this one, so I just want to confirm the seating capabilities of Thar.

Is it going to be a 4 seater (front facing) or 7 seater version (as in the posts above)? If its a 7er, then what exactly would be the seating arrangement (don't tell me it would be a Scorpio one.)?
