it is a design flaw.
not much can be done about it though on the safari.
the fuel tank (65 litres) occupies a fair amount of space.
thats why the spare wheel is placed on the rear door and there is no wheel well.
the rear door is supported by weak hinge joints.the spare tyre plus the heavy door is welded on to the body frame on the inside.
moral:dont slam the door too hard.the hinge will weaken.
the door also tends to squeak a bit.the beading needs better quality rubber.
not to mention, the spare wheel also obscures rear vision while backing up.
